Following from the Zidane threads I made, thought it would be interesting to see who you guys favorite player is, excluding former Celtic players.

I have only included player's from the last decade who I presume everyone on the forum has seen, didn't want to go back too far and include player's who very few of us may have seen ie Maradona etc. Feel free to mention anyone else if they haven't been included.

Pele, Maradona, Cruyff for all different reasons.
Cruyff because I still remember the Cruyff turn in 1974 and wanting to run outside and try it. Probably when I really fell in love with football.
Maradona because he was a one man football team and did things that no-one could do with a ball. His skills now are copied by everyone, and bettered, but back then, he was light years ahead of everyone.
Pele because the 1970 Brazil team is the most exciting I have ever seen. And Pele was the leader. His nonchalant pass to Carlos Albertos, his dummy to round the keeper and his Beckham shot from the half way line.
Tough shout.
So it has to be Henrik Larsson :)
Heh heh - probably Pele. To score that amount of goals against defences that were allowed to brutalise strikers was immense. And he had bags of skill and ability as well. Or maybe Maradona... -

Roberto Carlos.
Its gonna end up being Messi though. -

I am not old enough to have seen George Best when he actually played for Manchester Utd but I have seen videos of him. That was so entertaining. Must have been a lot of fun when he was playing. What a huge talent! But sadly too much alcohol… -

The fact it's limited to both the players you've personally chosen and only from the past few years makes it simply a personal choice of who was/is better between the players stated rather than an "all time favourite player" poll. That's why I voted for Messi from the options provided. Simply the best I've saw in my tender years. In reality my favourite player wouldn't be classed as the best, or necessarily be someone I had the pleasure of seeing in the flesh. :50:

Voted Ronaldinho...................might have been his big buck teeth but loved his big smile as he looked one way and went the opposite.
Love Messi, amazing talent. -
Favourites that have played in Scottish Football
John Robertson - Brilliant wee poacher. He'd have outscored McCoist if Celtic had bought him.
Davie Cooper - I know what he was but he was such a good winger to watch.
Peter Weir - Another good winger and part of some great Aberdeen teams.
Worldwide favourites
Bryan Robson - Absolutely loved him when I was wee. Man Utd legend.
Fernando Torres - Before the injury. Looked cool and his finishing was cooler.
Steve McManaman - Enjoyed watching him when he was at Liverpool. Great dribbler.
Roberto Mancini - Such a gifted player. Never got the recognition he deserved because of Baggio.
Xabi Alonso - I don't think I've ever seen him have a bad game.
