So things are getting a bit tight at work,i work in the building trade,i have been employed with the company five years,my boss is struggling to find work for us and has said he might have to let one of us go
He employed someone about a year ago to help us out for one job,which turned into a few jobs,he got caught stealing building materials worth a few grand and using them to do private jobs on the side and got fired,a few months ago we had lots of work coming in and my boss re-hired him,i lost all respect for my boss for doing this,not only did he re-hire him he paid him a better wage than the rest of us,i can't understand why,it has infuriated me,this guy is now the blue eyed boy of the company,i know he has stolen more materials from our store and i know he has worked for a different company during hours he was supposed to be working with us,the other guys i worked with either dont care or they dont want to say anything
we had a staff meeting a few weeks ago and when my boss said he might have to let one of us go,the guy who stole from him knew we had it in for him and said he should be the one to get fired,my boss then said no he wont get fired,that he is safe in a job!! cant believe it!
im good friends with the guys and he is getting married soon but he is putting me in a position where i feel i have to grass him up to save my job
what would you guys do? if i got sacked and he get kept on can anyone give me advice?
has anyone ever grassed on there work mates?

im not sure yet but the boss was pretty much saying that he is safe in a job,he gave me a look when he said someone might have to get let go,so that given me the impression he was thinking of sacking me,have to wait to see how it pans out in the next few weeks,but if i get sacked over him i will be ragin

thats what im telling myself,i would feel guilty if he got sacked and lost money for his wedding but at the same time he shouldn't be stealing from the boss and making the rest of us lose out in the first place,dog eat dog

Incidentally, why are your colleagues afraid of grassing on him?
Does he hold some kind of power over them? -
There's grassing over petty * like being 5 mins late, stealing a couple of erasers, adding an extra hour or two on to your over-time sheet etc that's unacceptable.
If it turns out this * is bragging and *, and you might end up on your *......* him. -
First of all sleep with his future misses. No reason, it'll just be fun. Then grass him up :D

He's actually committing a crime though, if he's stealing stuff from work, so you really should report it to your boss, if you have proof. -
i dont understand it either,there is 4 workers including me,i think one of them is good friends with him but i think he is helping him do the private jobs
and the other one doesnt have the backbone to say anything ,i have tried to say to him that i will speak to the boss but i need everyone to back me up

Like someone said, nobody likes a grass and if he can do no wrong in your bosses eyes you will more than likely paint a target on yourself by grassing on him. I would just let the whole situation play itself out.

Nobody likes a grass, be true to yourself and do what you have to do. I would not grass up on him myself. If he has done all what you have said he's done, its going to catch up with him sooner or later.

You have a problem there in fairness.
You’ll need concrete proof that he is stealing and that some of the other guys are helping him. -
Years ago wouldn't have but as you get older you get wiser plus by thieving of your boss is like thieving off of you as in the gear he nicks could mean you getting a rise or not so * him only * steal anyway .goodluck

In all fairness, the amount of stock that he has stolen could have directly affected the business' income that is forcing one of the employees to be made redundant.
