If you grass this guy up then you can expect him to react very badly, and probably violently, to it. So the first question you should probably ask yourself is...........could I take him?

Pish in his flask, eat the fillings in his sannies and leave him wae just 2 bits of bread. Basicly do stuff to him ( on the fly, so he doesn't know its you ) so he hates the job and leaves putting the odds in your favour of no being sacked. Saying that it could back fire and make you lose your job, but you have the "he's a thiefing *, who has cost the company thousands" card left to play so odds are in your favour again mate.

In general I hate snitches but in your position I can see why you'd do it and a grand's worth of stuff is a little more than a few pens.

The other potential way around this is to report the building materials missing. It's possible he would come forward and admit it during an investigation and a guy with a history of doing it would be the first suspected. Someone else may also report him taking the burden off of your shoulders.

So my advice is report it missing with no names mentioned. Your conscience is effectively clear this way as either the guy himself or someone else will come forward. In addition, seeing as he's talking of sacking someone, the thief will have to be seen to be the first one out the door lest everyone else end up infuriated potentially leading to a walk-out.

I would never grass in this situation! Your boss has brought this on himself and if he doesn't realise that materials are missing he is stupid. I personally wouldn't trust you if you grassed on someone I worked with even if they were an *. You should keep your mouth shut, give 100% at work and you'll be fine.
