Celtic striker Georgios Samaras insists money cannot buy the "history, tradition or heritage" that characterises the Parkhead club.
The 23-year-old Greece international had a loan spell with the Hoops last season and resisted other offers to make the deal permanent in the summer, signing from Manchester City for around £1.2 million.
"Trust me, Celtic is not just a club, it is more than a club," Samaras said. "The important thing is not the money, it is a mentality of the club."
He added: "Other teams may be able to spend a lot of money but if you don't have the mentality it will not go very well. You cannot buy the history, tradition or heritage of Celtic.
"They really love football here and the passion is unbelievable.
"You can't imagine how many supporters around the world Celtic have. If you are playing against Manchester United, Villarreal or Motherwell, you always have a full house of around 60,000 people.
"I realised that in the game against Barcelona here last season, the atmosphere was crazy. Where in the world will you find a better thing?
"So I am really happy here and I believe that I made the right step in my career."
my view
what a refreshing read, ive never heard a player coming out with this kinda thing before,,its always me me me

Agreed - it is refreshing to hear his outlook.
What a contrast to Robinho etc... -
Read that in the star today aswell.
He has a dig at City saying theyre not nearly as big as celtic and that tradition is more important than money. Its nice to hear from a modern day footballer alright. -

The only time i like to hear players say these sort of things is after they leave the club. I get fed up with badge kissers and i only really take notice once after they've played for us. For an example BBJ. I'm not saying he is a badge kisser but for some reason i'm just never sure about statements like this

How Great To Read That!
So True Though !
This has been annoying me lately in football, the whole issue over what club is richest..etc..etc..
I Don't Care About The £££ Billions,
it is football.
and at Celtic it is about THE football :)
C'Mon You Hoops ! :50: -

Did anyone see his face when they were lining up before the game to the champions league tune. he looked around the crowd in awe and really looked proud to be wearing the hoops, seemed emotional. thought he played well today aswell.

Well Samaras, you might be * enchanted but see next time you've made a yard of space in the 6 yard box, gonna try a shot or putting it across the 6 yard line, I don't know * you were thinking when you tried to round the keeper at that angle you clumsy *.
I apologize for this post but I'm on the warpath tonight lolLast edited by a moderator: Sep 17, 2008 -

I guess he speaks for all of us when he says that he likes Celtic because of the history and heritage, and not because of money and star players.
Well said on a day where money controls almost everything in football :50:
Love you Sammy :84: -
He's still a * though!
