Could Philadelphia Union defender Mark McKenzie be Celtic-bound? According to ESPN’s Taylor Twellman, there is major interest.
During the broadcast of the MLS is Back Tournament Group A showdown between the Union and NYFC morning, Twellman said the Scottish giants are “all over” McKenzie with the team’s scouts keeping an eye on the 21-year-old center back.
McKenzie has worked up way up through the US youth national teams, wearing the captain’s armband at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland last year.
McKenzie signed a Homegrown deal with the Union ahead of the 2018 season, making 19 appearances in his first MLS season and has been a regular starter since.
In January, McKenzie signed a new contract through 2022, with club options through 2024.

Is it no hard to sign American/MLS player's?
I remember we were trying to get Nagbe and his club made it torture due to some rule or that over there? -
5' 11" not exactly a unit, apparently competent at playing out from the back.
Does seem to tick a lot of boxes. -

He looks average as * in the video..

Also the videos Crow linked are quite old, I think he's only just started to come into his game recently. Seen some highlights of the boy against Deilas side and he actually looked really good, could be a shrewd signing.McChiellini.. likes this. -

We need a left sided centre back, this lad would be great for a back 3 with his pace but height is an issue as is no left footed centre backs.
-
His team won yesterday, GMS played for opposition.
-
In terms of the rest of his characteristics young with room to develop, already has international recognition, low price (not sure how he is available for less than £1m as reported) and potential for sell on all fit our model. It would also give added exposure to the US market if he goes on to be a good player. -
Sounds like a good signing on paper. Always worth tapping into the american market.

If he's the shortest in a hypothetical back 3, then McKenzie being a sweeper would be best.
-
If we're playing 3 at the back, it has to be a flat 3 and it makes most sense for Julien to be there due to how good he is the air.

I'm not convinced we will be playing 3-5-2 this season
-
A good tactician would be able to exploit the gaps left. -

Opposing teams would learn to just crowd us out on the 1 wing the ball was going down, knowing that if the ball got switched they'd have time to regroup.
When we're playing on wee pokey pitches like Rugby Park and Almondvale we need our wingers/wingbacks hugging the touchline to pull their 2 banks of 5 out as much as possible and leave more space for the likes of Christie and McGregor to do damage through the middle. -
