Just from listening to other fans chatting and reading people's comments it seems to me that a lot of people are already backing Mowbray more than they ever did Strachan. I've seen comments such as "Even if we don't sign anyone, I still have faith in Mowbray.", or " <!-- google_ad_section_start -->Its great that we have a manager now that is honest with the fans instead of trying to decode <acronym title="Wee Gordon Strachan">WGS</acronym>'s riddles.".
People already have faith in Mowbray. I ask, faith in him based on what? I'm excited about a new era just as much as the next fan but Strachan is a tough act to follow. He was a very successful Celtic manager and he brought me 3 and a half years of my happiest years of being a Celtic fan. I say 3 and a half because after the league form during the second half of last season was dire. I'm not saying I'd rather have Strachan than Mowbray as I think it was his time to go but I don't think Mowbray deserves his high pedestal just yet. He's still got a lot to prove and I don't see winning the league back being as easy as some people expect it to be. We're going to have our ups and downs like any other season.
Part of the reason I reckon Mowbray is getting so much support is because of the mass amount of positive comments about him in the press. When he signed, I couldn't turn a sports page without another word about his 'footballing philosophy'. I'm all for attractive football, but winning is more important.

Oh dont worry there will be plenty coming out when the first few games are lost....ie no cl or losing to the huns.
Even if he is worse than wgs he is a (celtic man) so will do fine. -
Good post Minty. Hopefully he turns out to be as good as the hype, but as you say he's got a hard act to follow. Can you imagine this place if we lose the league again to the filth? The feelgood factor is here for just now but if we fail to qualify, sign players or lose early in the season then I'm more than confident that the usual moaning and groaning will return.
Its over to Tony Mowbray now, next week is the start of a long hard slog. -
i wouldnt support mowbray more than strachan atm he has only been in charge for 2 gamest if we come 2nd this year then his "football philosophy" doesnt matter 1 bit
id rarther play the anti fball and win the league than silky fball like arsenal and be second
just like in the 90swe played gr8 fball but where always 2nd best where it matters -

He has been hyped up but he has made the right noises in terms of what Celtic fans want to hear.
-
I think he is getting more leeway from some fans, myself included, my reason would be that I'm genuinely excited about the up-coming season whereas when Strachan was signed I wasn't because I didn't think he was the right man for the job (he proved me wrong though)
Although as soon as Mowbray loses his first game, or we have a couple of poor performances then some people will be on his back straight away as a section of fans expect too much imo. We all want to see Celtic win every game, but some fans expect us to win every game and then go OTT on the criticism when we don't.
I agree that success wise he certainly has a hard act to follow but if the football is attractive then people will tend to be more lenient in their criticism, but you are right, winning is what it's all about. -
I think the biggest thing is that the fan base is enthusiastic.
The fans are looking at the promise of a new manager and fun, attacking football. At least that is how I feel. :celt_2: -

i wasnt too chuffed in the 1st place that we wanted him!
but since his appointment im genuieally excited about this comming season!
the way he speaks it seems everyone listens with pure utmost respect! he shows this back too and keeps the fans involved with whats happning at the club. so yes now for me this is now a great appointment so he has my 100% backing.(but mind and get a lb asap mogga :icon_mrgreen:) -
It's well documented the bond between the club and Mogga. That's why he's getting a lot of support.
Strachan didn't get that support, remember he was hated by our fans when a player at Aberdeen, one of our supporters even tried to attack him on the field of play, and if I remember correctly hardly any of us were doing cartwheels when he was appointed.
I don't think anyone was doing cartwheels either when Mowbray was appointed, but most of us were fairly pleased. We want the big man to do well, we want a different style of play, we are getting behind him and showing our support.
That's not to say Mogga will be better than Strachan. 3 leagues and two last 16s of the CL is quite a lot to match up to. As another poster said, the good tidings will fizzle out sharpish if we go on a bad run.
That's just the way it is, for any manager at any club.
But for now...
Hail Hail Mogga! -
think bazza fergusun got more support from us than wgs :icon_mrgreen:

He's getting more support than Strachan cos he deserves it -
Strachan was a crap manager who signed a load of boring, mediocre players. If he'd still been manager, we'd have got Stevie Fletcher and McCarthy, both of whom are way over-hyped and average - but he wouldn't have realised that, and we'd have been stuck with an arrogant * guiding a huge squad of overpaid tripe.
as soon as we started to have any competition - a well-organised rangers team (who had no money to spend) we started losing everything - it was because strachan was *.
thats why im excited about mowbray as it looks like we might actually go forward as a team, instead of steadily drifting towards mediocrity -
Im glad we've got someone thats honest with us now.

Strachan was not a crap manager. It's a fact that Strachan as Celtic manager = success. -

I never liked Strachan as a person, how he came across etc.. Mowbray has done more to endear (spelling?) himself to me in his short time at the club than Strachan did during his entire time with us.

I like Mowbray much better already than Strachan.
Think it's how he just says everything how it is, no messing about talking rubbish. Also a more attacking style of football is also a bonus :icon_mrgreen: -
