Right fans, it has been * this season, but what are your real feelings on this proposal to half the games v Rangers ...i would hate this, i think it will be a disaster, love these games...what do u all think?

It would give referee's only half the chance to cheat like *.
-
Where has this proposal come from.. Surely it would only be halved if the league is restructured to contain 16 or more teams..
I'd give up playing them even once every season if there was an invite to join the premiership.. -
4 for me
They can't do that, It would no doubt affect the money gained for tv rights, those games are half the reason these companys pay for the rights to the SPL. -
can you imagine the price for a ticket for one home game?
then again it means we only go the the hunnery once so cant get shafted
by the cheating manky biased refs twice -

It would be pretty bad but playing any team 4 time sin the league then a possilbe 2 in the cups is jsut ridiculous. Rangers playted hamilton 6 times this year and if they were in the top 6 it would be 7. that is laughable.
So if it was twice it would be more of an occasion than it is now imo -
Needs to be 4 or Sky/Espn really won't give any money for rights to SPL in my opinion!!!
-
4 times a year would do.
once at parkhead
once at castle greyskull
and twice at hampden -
Like has been said, unlikely to be happening any time soon, sky have it written in their contract to show 4 old firm games a season, plus any future tv deals would lose value if there were only 2. Having said that, I would be happy with it because watching celtic play the same teams sometimes 5/6/7 times a season is pretty boring
-
was it not always 2 games a season untill they restructured the league making the scottish premier division in the 70's or early 80's ?
we had up until that time the 1st division which had 18 teams in it
the * about with the league started then probably because they thought aberdeen, dundee utd. hearts, hibs e.t.c could become proper challengers to celtic and rankers with more income from increased attendances and the 4 games a season
but while aberdeen, dundee utd, hearts and hibs benefited from it the rest of the league teams got poorerLast edited by a moderator: Apr 14, 2010 -
i'd be happy to play them twice, as there'd be a high chance we could meet them twice in cup competition. at the moment the current set up is stale and boring we need to shake it up, i wouldnt dismiss any proposal at the minute.

Expand the league to 16. Play each team twice. Then spilt the league into top/bottom 8. Play top 7 again once, with the Rangers game at Hampden. 37 games in total.
That's just my suggestion. -

Still not keen on a split but having 16 teams in the league would mean there could be a winter break hence no crammed scheduling at teh end of the season.
Don't think too many teams would go for that as they would lose alot of gate money sadly -

if they made the league 16 teams, they could introduce a super cup at the start of the year with the winner of the league or the winner of the cup playing each other. If the same team has one both, then they could play the second placed league team, that way you are almost guaranteed an extra game every season?
-
I'm not keen on the split either, infact it's a joke. But something has to be done to revamp the Scottish game. If the league is expanded to 16, then 30 games a season is simply not enough.
Also a Celtic/Rangers game at Hampden every year is something to look forward to. -

Expand the league and get rid of the split, the setup of the SPL is a joke. Every season clubs come out to complain and the rest of Europe looks on wondering what the * are they doing
-
Plus the alternate idea would just be a recipe for disaster. It would be a clear advantage to the home side that season. -
I remember when we only played each team twice. It worked better and produced some memorable games.
Go back to a league of 22 or even 20. * the TV companies. They can pay more for the two Hun games as they would be more rare and we'd look forward to them even more. -
I want an 18 team league.
BUT
I want to play Rangers 4 times in the league.
The two old firm clubs would never vote for an increased league. Season ticket prices would have to drop dramatically, if there is only gonna be 1 BIG home game a season. They wouldn't be able to justify current prices if we had games against Partick or dunfermline.
