    ?? Why not really?

You are suggesting that each team in the top 8 play each other once no?

So if you say that Celtic v Rangers is played at a neutral ground then it goes without saying that all games must be played neutrally.

Are you seriously suggesting that each of the other team would allow Celtic and Rangers to play each other neutrally but then, themselves have to go to Ibrox and Celtic Park? No chance at all?

You have a good idea in principle mate, but you ruin it for yourself. The only way it could work would be to alternate home fixtures. Obviously the old firm would be in the top 7 each season, so i dont know why it would advantage one team if the following season the fixture would be reversed. Another suggestion would be to decide it by position before the split, so that every season whoever finishes 1st gets the same fixtures every year.

For the people who want it to remain 4 games a season it could be done easily enough..
A 15 team league makes things easier and it could be done so it's a fair system with regards to home and away games..

After each team has played one another (home and away - making 28 games) , the league splits into 3 groups of 5..
The 5 clubs play each other in their own group - home and away again , meaning 8 more games and making a total of 36 league games a season for all SPL clubs.. That at least means the important thing (who wins the SPL and who qualifies for Europe , and who gets relegated) is a fairly fought contest..

It's too bad for the clubs who are stuck in the midtable group with little to play for.. Maybe extra money based on final league placings could ensure they do have something to play for but at least the SPL wouldn't be a laughing stock any more when the post split fixtures are released..

two teams getting relegated would also be my preference..

Id swap 4 celtic rankgers games a season for a 16 or 18 team league in a second! playing each team twice a season makes it more exciting when going to the game as you havent already seen them 2 times already in that season.

    a fourteen team league.

    play each other twice......28 games.

then league splits top six play each other home and away.....12 games.

scottish cup plays to a final result with e.t and pens....no replays.

league cup is only for first division and below.... spl clubs ineligible.

league shut down in month of jan after ne'erday games.

bring back scotland v england match

reinvent the charity shield to a four team tourney with scottish champs and cup winners against the english equivalant.
if one team wins double or treble..highest league position takes precedence over cup losers.
final can alternate between hampden and wembley

have a bank of referees that can be sent to any match north or south of border.

have a group of five former players and five former referees to sit as a review panel for contested decisions. that can meet within a week of an issue arising

reduce prices from the entrance fee to the cost of a pie.

children under 12 free entry if accompanied by *

re introduce standing areas.....at celtic park behind both goals on lower tier.

it may not be a perfect but it'd shake it up a bit.

TBF would make it even more of an occasion if there were only two a season. I don't think theres much chance of this happening though, it would require other sides to give up a visit from us and the huns each season, the gates from which their chairmen depend on - for that reason it is a non starter and will be vetoed.

but in a weird way its another couple of games were they dont get pumped...which may attract more of their own support to watch games they may have a better chance of winning.....and yes i do realise the irony of my point given some of our recent results.

I say go the whole hog and have a 22 team league....lets face it there is no money in Scottish football so why worry about TV money.....tell me which one looks out place? I'm sick and tired of having to watch celtic vs hamilton / hib etc 4 times a season. Lets get back to the real Scottish football. The sooner we forget about money and consentrate on young Scottish talent playing against the best the sooner we see a better league and a better Scotland team. We need to change for the long term.

And to be honest if it improves the standard, let the good players be bought by the English clubs. I would love to see a conveyer belt of Scottish players going down there.

We have the stadiums....lets use them.

Scottish football needs a shake up and everyone knows it, a shake up means sacrificing 2 fixtures against The scum then so be it. I watch Celtic to support them regardless of who they play. Why not jus merge the SPL and 1st Division as of next season.

The SFA will go on about stadiums but who gives a * they need to start somewhere and in a few years time if its a success then maybe these teams will be able to update there facilities.

SFA are not pro-active with anything though so this will prob never happen!

It would only be 26 games..

There would only be 10 games.. you are including teams playing against themselves..

If you are splitting the top group into 6 then the bottom group will have 8 clubs which would mean teams in the bottom group play an extra 4 games each (than the top group do) if you make it home/away fixtures..

If there's going to be any split , the groups need to be made up of an equal number of clubs so it's an even number of games that every team plays which allows for fairness in home/away fixtures and that's why I think a 15 club league with a split of 3 groups of 5 works well.. You get the top group challenging for honours against teams who are challenging for honours , the bottom group challenging for survival against like minded teams (2 teams getting relegated) and a midtable group who only have league placings to play for (which is pretty much what midtable teams do anyway when it gets to the last third of the season...

The powers that be should also take away the European place for finishing as cup finalists and award it to the next highest placed club in the league.

I also think the league needs to be under 40 league games a season.. the 22 team league would mean 42 games..

Why wouldn't they let Celtic and Rangers play neutrally? It is no disadvantage to the other clubs, and no advantage to Celtic and Rangers.

As for the alternate idea, that is where it would so spectacularly wrong. Say for talking sake the first year the post spilt game is at Ibrox, with Celtic 20 points clear. No real advantage/disadvantage here with the league already won. Then next year its at Celtic park, with Rangers 1 point clear. Clear advantage to Celtic.

The Hampden idea is far more viable than your alternate idea.

I think the point he's making is after the split , teams only play each other once more (having already played twice - home and away)..

It's fine having the neutral OF game at Hampden because it doesn't favour Celtic or Rangers but what about all the other fixture where teams play each other for a third time that season.. Who gets the home game in those fixtures ? Should all those fixture be played at neutral venues too so its fair...

Its definately not happening anyway, Neil Doncaster was saying yesterday that a third of the SPL chairmen want to keep it how it is.

Ah right....well, yes that would be a problem, but the current system has flaws. Motherwell has to play more away games than home this season. Ramgers going to Tannadice three times this year. Us going to Fir Park three times last year.

Its not a perfect solution, but neither is the current format.

The requirement of an 11 to 1 vote for change is an absolute joke.

You really wonder why this was came up with!

It is to benefit outselves and the huns, we are the lifeblood of the league and therefore decisions need our approval.

In this case it is likely mid table chairmen enjoying their multiple visits from the OF each season, the type that put nothing back into their clubs and have little ambition. Bores me to tears, and it looks like we aren't getting out of thie * league either.
