i'm not being defeatist. i'm being realistic.
we have to score three goals at the Emirates. i just don't see that happening with history on Arsenal's side and heavily against us.
with us landing in the safety net of the new Europa League (it will always be the Uefa Cup to me) we will be in pot 2!
we need 5 teams out of Weder Bremen, Roma, Hamburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Villareal, Zenit, PSV, Benfica, Ajax, Valencia, Steau Bucharest, Fenerbahce, Lille and Basel to lose their Europa League Play-Off ties for us to move into Pot 1 and in theory drawing an easier group.
all of the above teams are all ranked higher than us. shocking really this ranking system that Basel, with all due respect, are ranked higher than us.
the draw is on Friday 28th
the expected pots should be...
Pot 1
Werder Bremen
Villareal
Roma
PSV
Shakhtar Donetsk
Zenit St. Petersburg
Sporting Lisbon
Hamburg
Benfica
Valencia
Panathinaikos
Ajax
Pot 2
Steaua Bucuresti
Fenerbahçe
FC Basel
Lille OSC
Celtic
Everton
Club Brugge
Heerenveen
Galatasaray
Anderlecht
Austria Vienna
Hertha Berlin
Pot 3
Lazio
Sparta Prague
Dinamo Bucuresti
AEK Athens
Levski Sofia
Aston Villa
Athletic Bilbao
Partizan Belgrade
Hapoel Tel-Aviv
FC Twente
Dinamo Zagreb
Litex Lovech
Pot 4
Toulouse FC
CFR Cluj
Red Star Belgrade
APOEL Nicosia
FK Ventspils
SV Red Bull Salzburg
FC Sheriff Tiraspol
Timisoara
Fulham
Dynamo Moscow
Genoa
Strum Graz
teams underlined are guaranteed entrance if they lose their Champions League Play-Off. the rest still have to qualify.
Mods, i will update this post with the official pots Thursday night.

then it will be good if we get them in the group so what if we are put in second pot we will still finish top
-
Put us in whatever pot they want we'll still be one of the best teams in the competition so who cares what pot we come out of!

Sporting/Fiorentina, Panathinaikos/Atletico all have higher coefficients so whoever loses those CL Quals will be seeded higher than us.
If Lyon, Stuttgart, or Olympiakos lose their CL quals they will also be seeded higher than us.
All this boils down to: It's a one in a thousand shot to be a 1seed.
But I don't think it's that big of a deal. There will be trap teams in every seed group and easy teams in every seed group. The seeding system is mostly a joke anyway. -

havingi think the fact that basle are in front is good for us if we are put in a group with them makes us certs to qualify
-
It will be nice playing games we have a better chance of winning for a change.:50:

bring on anybody in the europa league. i think there is enough quality in our team to cause anybody problems

Celtic chances of winning the Champs League before yesterday's game. Very Slim. Especially when you look at the likes of Real, Barca, Milan, United, etc. Far too much quality for us to compete against.
UEFA cup is anyone's and we've a far better chance of progressing and winning it. Just a shame the money isnt anywhere near what you get in the champions league. -

That means we wouldn't have much troubles going through. Although, many clubs there would be tough sides from smaller leagues and unknown teams are the biggest threat. But I'm looking forward to many European nights at Celtic Park.:50: -

- I would like to revamp 'fritz a grand ol team' as its a bit old and cheesey, needs some fat beats
Im sort of looking forward to playing in a european league where we can potentially win. the CL is great, we have done well in the past, but we celebrate getting to the last 16 as If Its a victory in its self (which it is given our finances and unfortunate situation ) .. but that for me is a bit sad given our clubs proud history, we are a good side with a good footballing ethos, cought in a really difficult situation stuck in the SPL, going nowhere fast. Championship teams can command higher salaries than us ffs. Its a bit like asking Amir Khan to fight holleyfield every year, we all know hes a gifted boxer he belongs in a certain weight group as perhaps do Celtic.. maybe its time to swallow our pride and admit that untill financiall situations change, we are better off at least competing and looking like potential winners than the glorious hardworking, proud failures of europe.

I wonder how many of those idiots will start singing no tims in europe IF we get beat by arsenal :56: -
an absolute joke, because without a doubt we're better than:
Hamburg
Shakhtar Donetsk
PSV
Steau Bucharest
Fenerbahce
and Basel
