Opinions on Zonal marking and should we use it?
For me you're giving the attacker the run on you and a massive advantage, I see no good in it and wish we would man Mark

It's the same with any form of Marking. Do it right and it works, Do it wrong and it doesn't
-
Running player with a jump versus a standing player. Any man who has a run before his jump will win hands down. I actually said this before the first goal went in.
Zonal marking is * stupid. -
Hate zonal marking all it causes is needless finger pointing and confusion. Give every player a man to watch and hey presto at least we have accountability
-
tbh I dont think it makes any differance what way you mark just attack the ball if its near you and also probably more importantly dont let the opposition near you get an easy chance, pull/push/barge/block them
-
Not worked for the last 9-10 year we have been using it hate it
-
If I could ask Ronny one question why we play this would genuinely be it. It cost us 3 goals over 2 legs. 30 million pound and any Chance of keeping our best player.

Would rather see our defenders with their * up the strikers * than giving him space to turn you, set up a team mate or out jump you and put the pressure on your keeper to make a save. Who came up with this tactic. Useless!

There's actually nothing wrong with zonal marking itself, but we just go to asleep at corners and never watch where the danger is coming from, if someone is making a run. They're supposted to be watching and seeing the danger in their zones but they're just * standing there letting them have runs.
This same issue came up when AC Milan beat us 3-0 at CP a couple of seasons back, and zonal marking was blamed then too. We have a different manager now and the problem still remains. I don't think it's as much a problem with zonal marking as that we are * at defending set pieces. -
I've never been a fan of it, but if you listen to a lot of ex pros, then it seems to be favourable.
The first goal tonight, for me, showed massive flaws in zonal marking, where the attacker was able to run in between his own player and a defender (Van Dijk) and get the touch on the ball.
He almost used his own player as a buffer between him and Van Dijk, and was able to have a free run without the defender having a real chance of blocking him.
Played to perfection. -
Strachan used this * zonal marking, so did Lennon, and now Deila.
Are they all fucken crazy ? It is *.Letting guys get a run and jump at you. -

I wouldn't mind it if we were able to do it. I have no preference to man marking in theory. We, however, clearly cannot execute zonal marking to any decent standard whatsoever.
-
Hate it, it's never made any sense to me.
You pick up a player, track the run and try to win the header. That's how it should be done. -
A zone has never scored a * goal, a player scores a goal though.
-
Hate it, put a man to a man and have none of these players looking at each other expecting somebody else to attack the ball
-
* hate it.

Always hated zonal marking. A good ball in causes chaos and indecision in defenders. Mark the man(in more ways than one), makes everyone accountable. The other thing that gets on ma * from 'new football', is bringing every player into the penalty box when defending a corner! Aaaaargh! Put the fastest guy on the halfway line, and it's two, maybe three less guys to deal with.
