IT was a disappointing afternoon for Celtic’s Reserve side as they were knocked out of the Reserve Cup, losing 1-0 to Aberdeen at Cappielow.

The only goal of the game from a Bruce Anderson penalty midway through the second-half, with the Hoops already down to 10 men following Kundai Benyu’s first-half dismissal. But despite battling bravely throughout the game, Tommy McIntyre’s side were unable to get back into the tie with a goal.

It was the visitors who started the game on the front foot, and both Anderson and Connor McLennan had chances to put the Dons in front.

However, it was Celtic who had the ball in the back of the net after 20 minutes, but Mikey Johnston’s effort was ruled out for offside. Five minutes later, Anthony Ralston had a great chance to open the scoring, but his shot from inside the box was well-saved by the Aberdeen goalkeeper, David Craddock.

Six minutes before the break, the Hoops suffered a setback when Benyu was red-carded following an incident with McLennan, and the 10 men of Celtic faced an uphill battle for the remainer of the game.

Not surprisingly, it was Aberdeen who were on the front foot in the early second-half exchanges, with Miko Virtanen’s cross into the box clipping the top of the bar, and just before the hour mark, Bruce Anderson won his side a penalty which the young forward duly converted to give his side the lead.

Virtanen had a chance to double Aberdeen’s lead on 75 minutes, by Ryan Mullen produced a superb save to deny the Dons player, and as the game entered the final 10 minutes, it was Celtic who pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Ewan Henderson found Stephen Welsh in the box from a free-kick, but his header was parried away by Craddock. And the Aberdeen keeper also denied Armstrong Oko-Flex with just three minutes remaining, producing another good save to ensure that it is Aberdeen who won the game.

Should be doing a lot better.

I grew up supporting Celtic through the late 80's and 90's. There is always a complaint about referees. It's an easy excuse. True or false it makes no difference.

This team should be doing better regardless. Take it out of the referees hands.

That’s plenty ,I grew up in the same period as the refs now are just about getting back to the level of blatant hunnery that we saw back then . There’s excuses and stating how it is

My main point is that we are too good to complain about this.

2 years ago I was saying how good this team is for its age.

That's gone. If they can't win at this level and its 2 years on why have them?

Who are the players to watch from the reserves who have yet to make their first-team debuts? Church? McInroy?
