JACK Aitchison scored a brace as Celtic cruised to victory over St Mirren in the SPFL Development League. Tommy McIntyre’s side put on an impressive performance as they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in Airdrie.

Jack Aitchison scored either side of half-time before Ewan Henderson put the game beyond any doubt in the final minute with a third goal for Celtic.

New Bhoy Leo Mazis made his competitive debut one week after the Celtic announced the signing of the Australian 17-year-old.

Celtic were in complete control of the game from the off and Kerr McInroy was first to have a go. He came close with a ferocious shot from the edge of the box which shaved the outside of the post.

Ewan Henderson was lively in the last third and caused problems for the home side with some dangerous crosses into the box and an early effort at the near post which he created for himself with some neat footwork.

As the half progressed Celtic’s grasp on the game tightened and St Mirren saw very little of the ball. They were kept busy in defence and were unable to shut out Celtic’ attacking threat which could have resulted in the Hoops establishing a comfortable lead had some of the chances found the back of the net.

Max Potter was the architect of a few opportunities as well and could have put Celtic ahead early on with a diving header which he sent narrowly wide of the post. Later in the half he ran in at the back post to header the ball back across goal before sliding in to try and tuck away the rebound.

Jack Aitchison came close on a couple of occasions but saw his efforts either blocked or deflected out for a corner.

Despite Celtic’s plethora of chances St Mirren looked to be heading for half-time without having conceded but Tommy Mcintyre’s side finally got the goal they deserved right before the break. Henderson picked out Aitchison with a threaded through ball and the Celtic striker timed his run well to collect and smash beyond the keeper.

St Mirren almost found a way back into the game early in the second half when the referee awarded a penalty against Max Potter’s challenge inside the box but Hoops stopper Reece Willison dived low to save Sam Jamieon’s spot-kick.

Celtic were undeterred by the close call and maintained their pursuit of a second goal. Henderson continued to remain a threat in attack and almost crafted a second goal with Thomas Caffrey. A quick one-two on the edge of the area led to Henderson lifting he ball over for Caffrey but the St Mirren keeper rushed off his line to thwart the danger.

The home side were unable to keep Celtic at bay for much longer though and conceded a penalty after trying to dispossess Aitchison inside the box. The Celtic striker doubled the lead when he fired the ball into the top corner from the spot-kick.

The Hoops striker had his sights set on a hat-trick and looked determined to get the third following the penalty. He continued to torment the opposition with his quick footwork and willingness to run at the defence. A third almost came with 20 minutes remaining when he weaved his way through the Saints’ defence and fired a shot across goal only for the keeper to save with his foot.

Celtic continued to bombard the St Mirren goalmouth with chances in the closing stages and a well-deserved third goal came in the final minute when Lewis Bell fired the ball across the six-yard box for Henderson who tucked it away to see off the game.

Ive only seen him a few times I like the look of him but I this right now, with Edouard, griff and dembele I wouldn't see it. If we find our dominant form in the league again he could feature towards the end of the season but with 3 strikers maybe not
