Cracking photos. I love how birds all have such funny characters. I'm not the biggest fan of Magpies as I've watched them nab chicks out of nests on the roof :54: I know everything has to survive in nature but It was awful to see.

Wee bugs on the branches? We had a flowering cherry tree which oddly enough only produced one cherry in all the years we had it :56:You should have seen me guarding that cherry :56:

Jeannie, I know exactly what you mean. The other posters will tell you how distraught I was when a young blackbird that we'd got to know was killed by a cat. He was lovely, very tame but no real sense. It was just so pointless. :55:

I'm not a fan of magpies either but the antics of this one were hilarious today.

Thanks, Johnie. I'm getting more used to the magpies in the garden now.

My late dad's cousin lives in a wee bungalow in Inverkip. He seems to tame all the wild birds in his garden. His garden looks like it's in a wee basin and he has all these fruit trees. It's like a wee micro climate and provides the perfect environment for the birds. I've watched him hand feed birds and there was this big old rook appeared one day. He called it Regi :56:it looked as old as the hills and half blind. He used to feed it big fat grapes by hand at the open kitchen window. Regi eventually disappeared but I reckon he lived out his last years in that garden. When he goes out to water the lawn he has to watch out as the blackbirds follow him back in the door and up the hallway :56:I reckon it's because he himself is old 92 and he has all the time in the world to pay attention to detail. He's also slow, quiet and non threatening.

Great post, Jeannie. Last summer, the blackbirds used to follow me about the garden waiting for me to turn over the soil. When I had the hose out they used to follow the jets of water and hop over the hosepipe like kids with a skipping rope. Can't wait until this summer.

Yeah we saw them doing that too. They like the water because it pit pats on the grass and the worms come to the surface thinking it's rain :56:Seagulls do much the same thing with their feet. You see them tapping from one foot to the other to fool the worms :56:
