    greatest ever celt

Most people are interpreting this question as 'most talented player'.
I don't think that's what the OP was asking, hence NL in the option.
Although HL was arguably our most talented footballer, he is far, far down the 'greatest ever celt' list.
Billy McNeil is the correct answer from that particular list.
Hope he gets a statue soon.

The greatest ever Celt without doubt is Willie Maley 52 years in a row at Celtic. Won 34 League/Scottish Cups in that time.

    Yes.
Most people are, understandibly, reading the question as 'who is the best footballer'?
JJ, HL, or KD would be my answers if the question was worded that way.
    .
I, however, took the OP's question to ask, as it says in thread title 'greatest ever celt'?
My other clues were - McNeil, Thompson, Craig, Lennon among the options. Along with the omssion of Kenny Dalglish (who is arguably scotlands greatest footballing talent)
I was astonished that McNeil wasnt even in the running.
    .
Clearly most people didnt see it the way i saw it.
2 questions for the price of 1.

That's what I was saying last night. It depends what way you read the question.

Because undoubtadly for me Tommy Burns needs to be in there but he wasn't the best player or the best manager he was just a very good, totally Legendary Great Celt.

This has probably been said but why the * is Jim Craig on this list? Weakest link in the Lions who went to work in aparthied South Africa, * imo.

I'd also have Lubo on the list.

The weakest of the Lions ma baws :56:

Infact, that's not much of an insult come to think of it. Lubo is nowhere near the list.

Jim Craig conceded the pen in Lisbon. He was nowhere near the likes of Murdoch, Jinky, Auld and Wallace.

You always get good value on TalkCeltic. :86:

Pretty much any poll on here that includes Henrik Larsson in the options is a waste of time. I've seen so many of them over the years and he wins by a landslide pretty much every time.

I think the only time I recall him not winning a poll was when I put him up against Jimmy Johnstone and asked who was the better player for Celtic....

    http://www.talkceltic.net/forum/showthread.php?t=97656

He only just lost that one too.

    Let the people sing,
Yeah the question is a bit misleading. Larsson is the greatest player to play for Celtic, but Lennon is possibly the greatest ever Celt.

Like I said, not much of an insult. He was however very, very important to Jocks style of football. He was the classy one at the back, while Caeser was more of the all action bruiser.

Jimmy Quinn should be on that list.

We need more clarity on what constitutes the "greatest Celt"

There are so many different categories.

    We need...

Greatest player - Murdoch (my granda's choice)

    Greatest manager - Jock

    Greatest legend - Jinky

    Greatest loyalty - John Clark

    Greatest Captain - Cesar

    Greatest modern player - Henke

    Greatest servant - Tommy

Greatest player to never leave - Paul McStay

Greatest Defiant Irishman who doesn't give a * and knows is on his way to immortality - Neil Francis Lennon

    :smiley-laughing002: Round ye's

    I agree with that.
