What's the cut off for "smaller" bands? The 1975 are huge, CHVRCHES are pretty big. Surely no one that plays the Barrowlands can be considered small.

I consider CHVRCHES to be small here, very few of my friends have even heard of them. From what I've read they're a lot bigger in America than here.

I don't think they'll ever be playing The Hydro or anything like that but they did get quite big very quickly. They were playing ABC in October last year and sold out the Barras instantly this February.

To my mind "smaller" bands are the ones that never get higher than say the fifth line on festival lineups.

I was thinking the same, if CHVRCHES, The 1975 and even White Lies are small bands then I've got hunners to list. :smiley-laughing002:

The 1975 definitely aren't a small band any more.

I'd still say Chvrches and White Lies, while maybe not small, are relatively new to a lot of people.

I know mate, just wondering where the cut off is for a small band. I was trying to think of bands who are struggling to even get a deal, wee gems that you stumbled on yourself.

What about Clutch in this country. They're not the biggest over here although they are quite well known in America.

I'll nominate Electric Youth. A lot of people know this song from the film Drive, but not necessarily the band. They only have 3,000 followers on twitter. Their debut album is coming out next month and I can't wait for it, all the songs I've heard from it have been great.

I love this kind of stuff, bluesy raw * recorded in a back garden with what is clearly a couple of nerds.
