Yes they are going to really have to knock it out the park again with the exclusives. They cannot compete with how cheap Microsoft can make their service and probably hardware(the PS5 will almost definitely be dearer than XBSX). Microsoft have insane money behind them when SONY as a company have actually been saved by the PS4s success.

I’ll be getting the Series X but will definitely pick up the PS5 later on for the exclusives.

I will still buy a PS5 later down the line for their content, but I’ve bought every Xbox since the original so will definitely get the Series X first. Plus game pass Live and Xcloud all under the one subscription is a superb deal.

This is all well and good but they need to put them to work on new IPs. They can’t do what they done with Halo and Gears and expect success.

They have just inherited massive ips now. Fallout, elder scrolls and doom as well. Fallout and elder scrolls(the online spinoff games) have been garbage for a while but the new mainline ES game should be excellent.

In other words, the big IP's will stay exclusive to Xbox.

Hate stuff like this, so can’t say I’m a fan of the news.

There’s been rumours regarding ZeniMax for a while (Sony was the talk back in January funnily enough) and while it’s great news if you subscribe to GP, its an absolutely terrible deal for the industry. Consolidation like this generally reduces options for consumers, it leads to job losses and it’ll most likely result in some sort of retaliatory response.

If you follow the industry, there’s been concerns for a while about publishers being bought and that triggering an arms race/consolidation. It was one thing when Microsoft were buying up talented, but financially precarious studios (Ninja Theory, Obsidian & Double Fine) or basically putting a ring on it (Playground Games & Undead Labs) but buying up an otherwise healthy major publisher is another thing entirely. Sony was already getting questions about why they weren’t expanding their studio lineup, and that’s only going to intensify now.

I did get a chuckle when I remembered the couple of the guys from id Software not being too complementary about the Series S on Twitter the other week. I guess they didn’t know about the deal!

I really hate the gamepass/gamingnetflix model but it seems like the inevitable future. It is unbelievable value but I like to buy physical games.
Some show of strength from Microsoft and the money behind them. Infinite funds.

Well you said triple A games, I’m saying they need to work on new IPs specifically if they have acquired talented studios. You might have meant the same thing though, it wasn’t intended as an argumentative comment..

It’s great to have these IPs but they can’t make the same mistake of thinking they can just make sequels of old IPs and not make anything new.

Elder Scrolls is a no brainer but they need to get it on the right engine (not sure how far the development of that is).

Fallout I would be really careful with. Fallout 4 was a bit stale already, not to mention 76.

Speaking very generally I feel like Microsoft’s mistake is to get their best people working on sequels of older IPs while Sony get new and creative IPs made.
