Would you rather celtic to play in england (premiership, championship) and sacrifice champions league football, or stay in scotland and continue to go for champions league football every season?
For me it's a toughie..im saying this with the assumption that if we DID play in england then we would'nt be getting champions league football. Champions league games are the most exciting nights to witness as a celtic fan,and it's what i look forward to every year, however the prospect of playing in the premier league every week would be class, and we would be be much more likely to bring in players etc. and would make us a bigger club all in all, however i do feel we would be saying bye to european football, at least in the near future.

I've always been in favour of trying our luck down south. The SPL is so bad we will never be a big player in real terms while still a part of this league there just isn't enough interest in it outwith scotland.
Yes Celtic has a worldwide appeal but only when we play in the champions league.
People aren't interested in watching us play Falkirk or St Johnstone. -

confident that after 2-3 years in the epl we would be playing in the Champions leauge
-
For me its easy, i'd go down to england in a heartbeat. Aye ok we may struggle the first couple of years til we settle in but think about it in the long run here.....
Celtic is a big name club which would be attracting top class players if we didnt play in Scotland, lack of money and * standard of league is the downfall up here. I seriously believe if we just scrapped a few years out down their and get some money pumped into the team then we could really make a dent on the champions league place.
Would have to be patient though, patience is a virtue my friend. -
Move to England in a heartbeat.

Taking the idea from another thread here, and instead of starting another one similar, what are your opinions on a petition, or banners at games ect to show we or very keen to make the switch - almost act as a pressure group to the board ?
-
if it doesnt work though, and we start losing games and pull a newcastle and get relegated, it could spell disaster..just look at southampton, charlton and norwich..all recently were challening in the premiership and now are in league 1.
If that was ever to happen to us, it would ruin us as a club..and nights in europe would be long gone, we'd be like nottingham forest. -

Every game would be like a Champions League match if we were to move to England -
-
Well in that case we should press forward and head down asap

Depends how ambitious we are.
If we have hopes of one day being among Europe's elite again, then playing in a bigger league is the only way. The days of 11 guys from the Calton becoming Champions of Europe are long gone.
If we continue to play in the SPL, we must accept the fact that last eight of the CL will be the very pinnacle of what we can achieve. Not just in financial terms, but because of the need to play quality opposition week-in week-out.
If we move to England, we will struggle to break into the top four initially. But we will not be relegated. A global brand like Celtic playing in the world's richest league would attract serious investment. I also believe we could average 75,000 for home games in the EPL. And long after the Abramovic bubble bursts, and long after the oil money dries up at Man City, we will be going strong.Last edited by a moderator: May 28, 2009 -

I also think that the board are maybe hoping that the bubble does burst in the EPL and a lot of there teams really do struggle financially, as this would open the door to us getting invited down there.
There is no doubt we will never reach our potential to be as successful in Europe as the elite clubs until we bail on the SPL. I think it will happen but who knows when?
Also the Scottish/Irish roots will always be a massive part of the club no matter which league we are participating in, that is how a large part o the fan base support the team and the club would be insane to try and lose that. Also we will always be based in Parkhead Glasgow; I think some people think that if we joined the EPL we would build a stadium in England or something!!
Dermot Desmond would love it if we got into the EPL as the club would be worth a fortune, that's for sure. -
:97: The thing i don't understand is .. why were the rules different for Cardiff and Swansea?
-
th enlightened ones on TC will bring us up to date
there is always an answer. and this is THE place
to find it:50: -
Do you really think standing there chanting we want to play in the epl will change anything....?
Do you really think the board are sitting on a offer to play in the epl but are not sure....?
:56: -
Guys its not about rules its about getting a invite to play in the epl,if you dont get one of them forget it.
We cant just stomp down to england and ask where our first game is...lol.
