I think Hiddink was close to getting it, I'm sure Desmond met with him and 'didn't get the right vibe'.

On the old treble winning video I have I'm sure there is an interview with Desmond talking about when he first met him(O'Neill)

Said something right *' cheesy like "first time I looked into his eyes I knew he was the man for Celtic" :56:

I'l try and find all the articles for you mate, might take some time but it was the Scotsman one and the Guardian, dated 2000. Allan McDonald had met with Hiddink and had been negotiating with him but he was blowing hot and cold.

The Real Betis chairman came out in the press and everything absolutely raging because of 'the timing' - they were in the * and he said we had an adverse effect on the club because the players and fans didn't know what was happening with Hiddink.

I think DD probably only met one man and that was MON. He was probably a massive fan of his. Just watched video, notice how he said they didn't have to meet with anyone AFTER they had met MON.

Hiddink was the prime candidate up until O'Neill.

Yeah I noticed that but thought I'd stick it up anyway. I never knew the Hiddink stuff was that serious, mad how one of the most successful periods of our history could have been so different.

He's not signed yet, nothing has been confirmed only rumours. Let's not get overexcited.

Nah, Desmond definitely did meet with Hiddink - he doesn't say it outright, but he does mention in one of the Celtic history DVDs that he met with a few managers, and decided Martin O'Neill was his man after looking into his eyes......or some luvvy duvvy * like that.

I don't care what Liverpool fans think.

You can't blame folk for getting excited at the prospect of this. Considering the other candidates linked with the job and the position we are in as a club nowadays, it would be a huge appointment and one most of us would never have seen coming.

EPL fans are notoriously thick as *. They are fickle beings, believing that wealth equates to success somehow, yet were annihilated tonight.

Regardless of what they think, he took them to their highest finish in a long time. Gerrard being all lackadaisical and falling on his backside is what costed them the title.

He'd still be in a job if they won that.

And coming with a few points of the a league title such as the EPL, with a fair few signings that weren't even your own is not bad for a nearly man.

I'l * take that. Who do you suggest we go after on the long illustrious list of Keane, Mackay, O'Neill (NI)? :56:

Liverpool have been ruined since the day Rafa Benitez left. Rodgers has been the best and had them just about win the league.

He is good enough because, frankly, if the wee Stevie G didn't end up on his *, he would be nowhere near us.
