THE young Roy Keane would have imagined his Celtic debut many times, and in many ways, but never like this, as a ghost in someone else's romance.
It was a humiliation as great as Keane has known on a pitch — a 2-1 Scottish Cup loss to second-division Clyde — and Keane, wearing Celtic's green for the first time, was the chief attraction.
To those Celtic supporters for whom Keane's arrival seemed like a prophesy fulfilled, it would have been like waiting years to see Muhammad Ali box, only to watch him knocked cold by a fairground fighter.

Aye it was a disappointment and put things into perspective. We were on fire that season and should have took the treble really. Provided we beat Clyde, but didn't. Lost. Never mind the 'big boys', back to square 1.

Just looked it up actually, he started in midfield. He did fill in at CB for Celtic though a couple of times.

I agree with whoever said Thomas Gravesen. I only remember him for that one goal against them in 2006. It's funny how most of the lesser known players end up becoming club legends though. Take Larsson and Lubo for instance. Neither of them had any sort of reputation before they joined us. Larsson went on to effectively win the Champions League for Barcelona after coming on as a substitute and also played in a starring role for Man United more recently.

Unfortunately, Moravcik was that bit older when he signed for us, so he never went on to play for any other big clubs. Still a once in a lifetime player though. I'll never forget that day at Ibrox in 2001, when he scored two goals and we beat them 3-0. Larsson scored the other one, which was incidentally his 50th goal of the season.

    Hail Hail :shamrock:

To be fair, he never really had a good reputation, he came from Brighton after all. The price tag was probably why he was never really liked, along with being pish.

Both were freebies, and again, never really had much of a big reputation. I thought Telfer was good for us, though.

some top players have flopped here and the biggest flops were Juniho and Graveson. Generally speaking (not counting Rangers crazy spending period) if a seriously world famous player comes to play in the SPL then they are seriously damaged goods. Sad but true.

their are a few i 100% agree with such as tommy G, Evander Sno and also scott brown to a certain extent

I would actually add stephen pearson to the list, he absolutely dissappeared of the map along with likes of Braffied, Henchoz and Adam * virgo

However i disagree with the guys who mentioned Tommy johnson came across a likeable fella who was mowed down with injuries, any time i seen him play on tv, he just put the ball in the back of the net.

I also disagree with who mentioned Big Celine Dion!! The big guy was brought in for Emergency backup if Hartson made a last minute decision to move on at the end of the January transfer window. Got him for free and doubt we were paying him alot. Scored a few goals and never had a bad game. He also was said to have had a positive influence on the younger guys when our spine was being ripped out with Thompson/sutton etc. being shipped out and moved on.

Juninhio didnt fit in to Martins long ball system and thats why he failed

I also disagree with Kenny miller, the * did alot of the ball that no one noticed, and were expecting him to bang in the goals at the time when everyone knew that he was more of a provider than a goalscorer.

I feel that rab douglas was a massive flop

To be fair nobody had heard of rico (who did become a cult hero)
regi was involved in a deal for paolo so was unpopular from the get go
coupled with the fact he was * at wednesday!!
donati was a fringe milan player and was feted purely for the fact that he cost milan £10million once upon a blue moon sad thing is he was actually starting to play well when he got punted!!

Havent read the whole thread, but these come to mind straight away.....

Gravesen, jarosik and juninho were massive let owns considering what they had done previosly in their careers, but the worst let down ever was Rafeal Scheit, absolute * cost £5m only played about 7 games if even that.

Keano was quality for us. I thought he and Lennon had an outstanding partnership.

mentioned him purely on the basis of only coming to us as a nice wee wind down, he jacked it in after only 6 months. I had hoped for 1 or 2 seasons out of him tbh.
I do remember his performance (MOTM?) against the huns which was top drawer, however I dont think he was generally outstanding

Juninho. Wouldn't say n'guemo was a let down he wasent built up to be amszing and tbh he wasent half bad, and when you said all the camaras you meant Diamonsy Kamara and he looked good when fit but he was injured most of his time at Celtic.
