Took Ronaldo a good couple of years to establish himself from one-trick sand-dancer to bona fide contender for worlds best.

When you are in the top 3 clubs in the world, money becomes a bit of a non-issue in my opinion. Being one of the best teams in the World naturally your squad is going to generally be pretty * excellent. It's the top TOP players that distinguish the Barcas/Man Uniteds from the Chelseas/AC Milans. Generally, and anyone whos played football manager will know what I mean - sometimes no amount of profit can account for losing by far your best player - especially when there is noone out there to step into his shoes.

I'm not saying Man United got a bad deal here, just that surely using an early analogy in this thread the score would be Real 1 - 1 Man United here. Man United will still no doubt be challenging the the EPL title again and will probably win it either way.

Ferguson will probably find another player as good as Ronaldo in a few years if he's still manager.

That statement seemed to get them £80m instead of £50m!

The player wanted to move, its often best to cut loose of players that arent 100% motivated & committed to their clubs and Ronaldo definitely fitted into that category

Probably keep Tevez now, he's a very very good player

Dont think Ribery's that special to be honest. Which ever way you look at it Utd cant buy better than Ronaldo. Theres no way there's a player out there who can produce as many assists/goals a year as CR with the possible exception of Messi who won't leave Barca.

All accounts point towards Tevez not wanting to stay at United. Supposedly he feels slighted because of the lack of playing time, and not starting the CL final.

Tosic looks a real prospect, they will probably play him there and see how he goes.

80 million plus whatever transfer budget Ferguson already had (I'd assume about 30 odd million).

He's the best manager in the world at replacing world-class players with either relatively unknown players or potentially world-class players and turning them into the complete package.

Think now we'll see the best of Rooney, he'll be played as striker more often now, which is no doubt his best position (as England games prove).

68 million profit is nowhere near a loss to United, spend it wisely and you may have lost one world-class player, but you could bring two in. Surely that's a better deal?

Rossi will be back at Old Trafford, maybe even this summer. He inserted a buy back clause whenever he left.

He's as shrewd an operator as the day is long.

It was a two year buy-back clause so its now or never.

You can't replace him, I mean not immediately. It took Ronaldo himself a few years to reach his potential, and with the Man U team we know they can't afford to wait for long.
