my own personal favourite of all time is George McCluskey partly because i was told i looked and played like him in my old school team, which included a certain charles Nicholas playing sweeper when we won the glasgow school shield :56:

I was just about to mention Jimmy McGrory and I see your point. But, McGrory lived in a different age when technology wasn't as good. There is a limited number of photos of him, and a very limited number of videos of him in action.

With Henrik there is mountains of photos and hun skelping videos. They are easy to find, while this is all I could find on McGrory.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjfZwcKA_Qg"]John Thomson & Jimmy McGrory in the 1928 Glasgow Cup Final - YouTube[/ame]

So I think it is easier for our generation to associate and appreciate the Lisbon Lions than it is with McGrory or Tully because of the collection of materials we have of them (McGrory didn't even get voted into the greatest eleven team in 2002 which is crazy). What has happened to McGrory with out generation won't happen to Henke because people have the means to see him and appreciate what he done, even in a hundred years time. Sadly, we can't really do that with McGrory, we just have some photos and amazing stats... :54:

EDIT: nevnor beat me to it... :56:

Sean, every era has their own idea of who the greatest is. Our club has always been synonymous with great strikers going back over 125 years now. 50 years from now we will be talking about Henrik and our childrens children will be talking about the next hero. The great thing about our club is we always seem to unearth a gem, even if it takes a few barren years in between

Well it depends from which angle you're looking at things I guess. Looking at it from purely a footballing perspective, which I was doing, then yes I would put Henrik Larsson well ahead of Paul McStay. My view of McStay's career is that he was very good up until his mid 20's but the latter part of his career was filled with a lot of ordinary performances and living off of the reputation and good will he had built up over previous years.

If you're looking at things from the perspective of being a servant to Celtic then you're right, you couldn't put Larsson well ahead of McStay. McStay gave his whole career to Celtic and refused to leave the club even when it was going through some of it's leanest times. He's certainly worthy of remembering for that reason alone.

Just seen a few posts on my point about McGrory and you guys are absolutely right.

There is loads of footage on Dalglish though and he isn't held in the same regard as Henke these days, he also won just as many titles and cups as the king of kings.

That's what I mean about history, will he be as revered as Dalglish isn't in 30 years?

I don't have a lot of time for Dalglish after he took a scouting role at Ibrox under the Murray regime apart from that he is just an * of a guy. Undoubtedly a good player though.

    Henrik oozes class.

Marky I agree with you on the principal of football alone. There is not a lot of footballers who have graced the turf over the last 20 years who can match Henrik for what he achieved, However, is that all football is really about? I am guessing like me you remember the 90's quite well and yes you are right in saying McStay's performances dropped off towards the end. In saying that can you honestly say he ever went out on that park and gave less than 100%? To me that's all I can ever ask from a player and he is honestly the last player I can ever say has done that whilst wearing he hoops

He was my dads complete idol..

What ruins the celtic legend status for me was how quick he wanted away and nothing could change that, was not like when henrik left, both had made up there mind but Kenny's was a bitter ending..

He had a great career after us but he should be remembered more and is as a Liverpool legend and that is his club.

This will probably sound harsh to some of the older posters who saw him but that is my take on it,even though I wasn't around in them days..

    I don't agree with that.

Burns is more of a bona fide Celtic man than Stein.

Stein refused to move upstairs and take a job with Celtic pools.

Burns loved the club so much he went from manager to youth team coach.

McStay was with us man and boy and stuck with us when we were * and better offers where on the table.

Henrik gave his prime years to Celtic,& in fairness went onto
    "bigger things"

Kenny's prime years were elsewhere, even though he was immense for us.
His reputation also took a hit when he came back.

Dalglish ruined his status for the barnes fiasco, then a guy who claimed bled celtic, refused to take the job full time, but a few years earlier wore the hun rag in some friendly and claimed it was the highlight of his life, then preceded to take the murray moonbeam, and become their world wide super scout who would unearth the next maradona and zico :56: to keep timmy forever in their place, we all know how that turned out

Kenny was with us for 8 years though. A year more than the King.

I completely understand your point though.

Mind you he * off at the first opportunity when he was
about 38, soon realised his mistake though:86:

Henrik is at the top of the tree, history will only do 1 thing - strengthen his position as an unadulterated legend of this club.

    A superstar.
