Yeah, that's another point. Strachan was never sacked nor hounded. He left amicably.

My only regret is that he never received the credit he deserved from some supporters.

Some didn't like his manner, fair enough. Some didn't like the football, fair enough. Success and great football is what we all want but that costs money and if i had to choose one? I know what it would be. Strachan brought success, he brought joy and we were successful team home and in Europe when he was in charge. He wasn't perfect, but he was successful. At the end of the day, that is what matters.

I never subscribed to this "he's not a Celtic man" nonsense. There was something divisive about that opinion to me and i didn't like it. Whilst Gordon Strachan was Celtic manager, he WAS a Celtic man. He did his upmost to bring us success and more often than not delivered.

He's certainly a manager i will always look back on fondly and some of my best times as a Celtic supporter were on his watch.

Why the * would people want him back? Yes we were successful during his time here but it wasn't exactly enjoyable watching his * football. Strachan won those leagues against an absolute shambles of a huns team. Tbh, I would rather stick a nail into my eye than watch his hoof the ball up the field tactics again

You must have absolutely hated the Martin O'Neill years, especially against the * huns team of 03/04.

Where did this thread even come from? It can't possibly have been created on the basis of last nights performance can it?

    .. Sigh.

WGS splits our support. There are those that didn't like him due to his times as an Aberdeen player, or how he's not "Celtic-minded" enough for some wich in itself is a disgrace to regard someone wanting to do their best for this club. Or the way he managed was also a reason why some of us didn't take to his footballing philosophy. He grinded results at times, but he got them in the end.

He also didn't half give us some fantastic memories. 3 in a row (Clinching the 06 title in record time with 6 games remaining of the season) and making the last 16 of Champions League twice, defeating teams like AC Milan, Benfica & Manchester United. Back when every single one of us were proud to regard Celtic Park as "Fortress Parkhead" and was considered a powerhouse in Europe to take a result from.

Now look at us, failing to beat the likes of FC Sion, with no disrespect to them as they thoroughly deserved their win over us last night. But it's a team we should've breezed through without a sweat. At this rate of decline I worry for what the future holds in store for our dear club.

    But I remain faithful. :shamrock:

That old non argument. What did Rangers have to do with us reaching the last 16 twice under his management and actually winning games in the Champions league, never mind the Europe league. I'm not wishing he was still here or anything like that and I believe Lennon is the right man for the job at this moment in time. It's just amusing and astounding to me how some fans will throw up the same tired and non arguments to try and besmirch Strachan's success. I remember the football under O'neill being far from popular at the end of his reign but no one was saying anything then.

Strachan could only play the Rangers that was put in front of him. Also, if they were so bad, what does that say about the current Rangers team? Rangers sides during strachan's time were competing in Europe, not to mention reaching a European final. Could you see this Rangers side doing anything like that? Yet they still pipped us in the league last season.

Just be a man and admit it, you can't bring yourself to credit Strachan because he "wisnae a pyoor cellic man kno".....as someone pointed out earlier, had he been from Belfast and had an O before his last name, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

It's a sad reflection of SOME of our support.

Agreed; it was the board that * up by appointing Mowbray and gave him loads of money to waste; neil is still dealing with that toxic legacy, especially when you have guys like hoovield and rasmussen still picking up wages for * all

*?! He won plenty at Celtic and had success in Europe. Okay, no European final, but reaching the knockout stage of the CL kind of diminishes your chances of that.

3 titles in a row is nothing to be scoffed at, not many Celtic managers can say they've managed that. And I don't care about the rangers were * argument either. We've been saying that for the last few years as well, even this season you see a lot of people thinking the title is ours, yet we keep * up. Winning titles is never easy.

I just wish one day Strachan will get the credit he deserves, which he rarely did during his time at the club. Lenny for example can get away with a lot more than Strachan ever could.
