Firstly you are wrong on so many accounts. If the 2 old firm games you were talking about were at Celtic park why did you call it "at the * pit" ?? is that what you call Celtic park??? Hmmm

Secondly the 2 deals are not in place. If you read previous posts by myself you will see that the deals "are" reliant on there being 4 old firm games and "are" reliant on both Celtic and Rangers still being in the league. The deal wasnt signed in 2009. The new deal was signed in nov 2011 and was for £80m over 5 seasons which is £16m a season. We received roughly about £2m directly from tv this season so its not a great sum but could be the difference in 1 or 2 signings in the summer. (a wanyama and stokes maybe?) the deal is for 60 spl games but there isnt an even split on these games as you say. Sky show more games than ESPN do and get the pick of the cream games including the old firm games.

As for the sponsor on our jersey? How many countries does the old firm game get shown in?? That game is shown from Argentina to Japan. Are you seriously telling me that doesnt make it a more lucrative deal with that kind of exposure?? Are you serious??

How am i contradicting myself??? I said we dont need Rangers to survive. We dont ! Simple ! We are a well run club and will adapt to whatever circumstances arise. Yes i said , in my opinion , we would be in a better financial situation if they were in the spl next season. How is that contradicting myself. Its 2 completly differnet scenarios .

As for taking the blinkers off, in "my" opinion its yourself that has to take the blinkers off.

Your spot on with regards to where we are at the minute. Most seem to think this team of ours are just going to waltz into the champions league though. That will take a bit of investment. Rightly or wrongly i feel we would be better equipped financially if Rangers were still in the spl therefor it would give us a better chance of getting to champions league and maybe competing as Strachan did.

I love Celtic, always will, but are your telling me you get the same feeling in your stomach going to watch Celtic v Inverness as you do going to an old firm game or going to Celtic v Barcelona ??? Do you get that same buzz watching "eleven men in green and white" playing East Stirling in the cup?? No matter who we play or how well we are playing ill still be watching us. Doesnt mean you dont want to have the excitement of the big games?? They are the ones that live long in the memory and make you so excited for the next ones to come around.

Read my post on page 6 of this thread rather than pasting it again and clogging up this page.

Rangers basically killed scottish football in the 90's. In the 80's Aberdeen, Dundee United, and Hearts were up there challenging for titles, along with us. Going back to the 40's, 50's and 60's you had the likes of Dundee, Kilmarnock, hearts, and hibs winning titles. We won our 9 in a row at a very competitive time in scottish football. In the 90's, under murray, the huns started spending money they didn't have and as result the rest of Scottish football collapsed. It took us several years to recover and thrive, but the rest of the league has only suffered more and more.

Relegation to the 3rd division is a rather lenient punishment for what they've done to our game over the last 20 years.

Nah that's not what I asked for mate. I don't want some copy and paste job from the red tops or a quote from that * snake Doncaster...

I want actual proof from Sky that this is the case.

    Spot on mate.

It's bad enough that they killed Scottish football with their pursuit of The Lions but now to find out they actually cheated trying to emulate the greatest Scottish team of all time???

How anyone can say hand on heart that they don't want these * dead and buried is beyond me.

Yeah i agree with this, i think predominantly we have to look at the crime rather than the consequences of the punishment.

So a quote from Doncaster isnt proof ?? You want me to phone whoever done the deal for Sky and get them to fax you a copy of the agreement right away???
Or will i arrange a meeting for you with him. You want me to send a chopper over for you just now and ill fly you straight to his house and he can show you in person?

Im afraid i dont have what you are looking for.

OK maybe I was being unfair, of course there is more of a sense of occasion when we play in the Champions League. I love those games, absolutely and hope we one day get back to that level. I completely disagree that Rangers being in the league would give us a better chance of getting back to it though.

I think that the bottom line (I know, I know) is that Rangers deserve to go down and whatever the consequences of that, we should take that as day zero if you like and start trying to improve the Scottish game from there, not squeeze them back in and hope somehow things improve from the current stale situation. I feel like if clubs got behind it we could make the best of the situation and see a clamour of teams aiming for 2nd and European football. If the rest of the league began competing for something, even if it's finishing 2nd behind us for 5 or 6 years, then eventually we would see some worthwhile games being played between Hearts and Dundee United or Kilmarnock and Motherwell. That brings crowds, that brings money. With regards to our situation, we would presumably be winning the league every season and having a go at qualifying for the Champions League every year.

Taking guaranteed money off these teams wont help them in the slightest. Where would a St Mirren fan find a pub to watch a home game against St. johnstone?? Or a stream for that matter?? No such things exist for these games so that isnt the reason they are not going to games. Its the product on the park which has drove them away. Taking money off them isnt going to help improve quality on the park , it will only make it worse so it would probably drive more fans away.

Yes our shirt is a great seller but that isnt what attracts sponsore to our shirt. Its tv coverage they are looking for. Its being seen in the champions league. It costs an absolute fortune to sponsor anything in the champions league so if your playing in that tourni it makes your sponsorship worth more. Same with the global audience for old firm games.

We both have different opinions on the financial aspect with regards to us but with regards to other spl teams i think its pretty much accepted that they will lose out straight away. I dont think things will improve if we squeeze Rangers back in. They would just stay as they are which is a better option than cost cutting which they would have to do without Rangers. Thompson from Dundee Utd reckons it would take £1m directly off his spl payments . They have no way of making up that shortfall every season. As for crowds going up, did Motherwells crowds go up this season when they were fighting for 2nd place for a while and later fighting for the champions league spot?? The answer is no. Are they going to have a bigger budget due to qualifying for the champions league? No is the answer as they have already stated they will need to cut the wage bill this year.

With regards to us , yes we would win the league every season and have a crack at the champions league. Would the league be anyway exciting for us though if we were 20 points clear in November? Would it be half a season of nothing games? If we never made the champions league would we have no "big " games at all to look forward too?? Just a thought ..

I WILL ANSWER YOU, AND TELL YOU THIS, don't worry about the tv deal, if you are in the third division it has never bothered the third division at all,

The whole premise of your argument is that that the huns removal from the top flight will have a detrimental effect on SF/Celtic, their crimes seem to be placed on the back burner and financial blackmail seems to be the order of the day.

What if (for example) they were found guilty of match fixing would you still insist they remain in the SPL ? where does it end.

Murray sat back with a fat cigar boasting about outspending Celtic and now he's in hiding and the manky mob have been exposed for the lying tax dodging deceiving bunch of crooks that they are.

They enjoyed the glory based on ill- gotten gains and now they should have to face the penalties.

This shouldn't be about what's best for SF or the SPL, it should be about justice being served up and an appropriate punishment for the crimes committed.

i will give you something to ask, Neil Doncaster, why is there a favour given to 2 teams
in the SPL but the reality is HE IS the Governor to all. when every penny made from football
from school kids all the way up is an a irrelevance, who pay there fees to them, but are now made to be the beggars. take your time and think about what I have said here.

    mfischer,

I assume you would have the same opinion if Hearts were to go busto in the next few years (being the third biggest club in Scotland)? What about if Aberdeen or Dundee Utd were to go bust or be relegated - should they be kept in because they will generate more money for the league than the likes of Ross County? And should we just invite teams like Dundee (so we can get a Dundee derby), and Raith Rovers (bigger crowd, stadium, and history) into the SPL instead to Ross County who have a rotten stadium and few supporters? Effectively just hand pick the best financial prospects for the league and only replace them if the do not make money for the SPL.

Because if we are to be consistent, that is exactly what you seem to be suggesting. Unless we are just talking about teams that generate a particularly large sum of money. Where do you draw the line?

So how does the Rangers chat thread being so big indicate that we're obsessed with them going down instead of us going forward?

Perhaps we are "more obsessed" with seeing the positive morality in this day in age finally win.

If Scottish football as a whole had any cahones (this includes SPL and SFL) - they would join forces and remove das Hun for the top division.

Now, as we all know there has been a huge outcry for a total revamp of Scottish football - well why not use the demise of Rodent F.C as a chance to do it?

We all know that the huns will be voted back in to Scottish Football in some capacity - but if there was any signs that the top officials had any morals left the would drop them down a division - complete with sanctions for x amount of years.

Back to Scottish football - why not merge both parties (SPL/SFL) and introduce 3 divisions run under the one governing body - complete with play-offs etc.
