I wouldn't be too happy about him being our striker in the Group Stages for reasons I've said previously. I'm still not confident that when chances are at a premium, he is the type of striker that will get one good chance and score from it.

I think we'd struggle to find better, so yes. Just need other options with different qualities though.

    Yes.
He's a 30 goal a season striker. His record with Dundee and Hibs (21 & 12. 11 & 28 respectively) means we know he can and will smash them in at domestic level.
He has added more to his game. His workrate and attitude are exemplary and he appears to have taken the other step up to Europa level football (Fener and Ajax are 2 teams you would normally expect in the CL - so the next step for him isn't as big as some would have us believe).
He is averaging 3 shots per goal.
To buy a striker that will better that we will be shelling out £10million these days.

We have to be realistic. We can't afford wages for players like Griff from abroad. We are lucky he is as unfashionable as he is or he'd be out of our league.

Yes, I'd be happy going into the group stages of the CL with Griffiths as our striker just now. He'd find chances harder to come by but I think when he got them, he'd score.

I would be more confident with Samaras leading the line than Griffiths in the CL.

Taking goals out the equation, he's the type of guy that will take the ball a run, hold it up etc. Griffiths may well be good enough against teams like Barcelona, AC Milan etc but he may not be.

If he isn't getting goals against teams at that level, is his all round play enough to justify him being our main man, so to speak ?

Cant 'quote' you Senna but agree mostly with that, only thing I would add is hopefully the board are going to extend Griff's contract before he becomes more fashionable.
Nice wee 5 year deal with a 5 year option ought to do it :icon_mrgreen:

No one puts griffy in the corner.

He's my thumb, I will love him and protect him for as long as he is here.

I don't think any striker has showed such promise in regards to current and future development and as long as he keeps that up he will be a fantastic player for us.

I've always said Griffiths was a good player. As soon as he got here he started banging in goals, he was the only exciting thing about the second half of Lennon's last season. For some reason people immediately forgot about that when Lennon left.

That being said, I think he's becoming a bit overrated by some in the support now. For me, he still needs to improve and take more chances. He tends to score one then miss a whole bunch after that and I think it's contributing to why we have a good 1st half but still go on to drop points or lose games.

He could become a top striker for us but he needs to keep improving. I'd also like to see how he does with another decent striker playing next to him. It's frustrating Deila refuses to adapt his formation and give us a plan B, and also contributes to why we drop points in my opinion.

No matter what you think of him, you can't argue he is good enough for a back up striker. So I don't think selling him even if we had Suarez as our first choice would be a good idea.

We'd have to sell him to fund the Suarez deal, obviously. You think we're made of money? :87:

When has Griffiths scored 30 goals in a season, and more importantly when (so far) has he done it for celtic?

Wee griff has been great for us so far, I am not sure what the fuss is about honestly. He has shown that he can perform in Europe, too, which is something that most of the doubters were fussing about when we signed him initially. I am not sure who is underrating him, but our sub-par performance as of late is far from his fault. Its not his fault that he is the only striker scoring goals for us right now.

He scored 21 in 30 for Livingston, 21 in 39 for Dundee and 28 in 42 games for Hibs.
    In a season.
Teams a lot shiter than we are. We create more chances per match than at any other time in recent history.
If Griffiths plays a full seasons worth of games (say 50 starts) he will bang in 30 goals.
Whether people like it or not he is a goal scorer. It's a fact, not something that's been plucked out of my imagination.
He got barely any starts last season until January due to us persevering with the diddy Guidetti and Scepovic - players who cost a * load more to transfer or pay than Griffiths - yet he has made them both look like *. He still scored 20 goals.

I never said he has scored 30 in a season for us i am saying he IS a 30 a season striker - if he plays.

That's the problem, some people will never accept him.

If this thread is any guide we need someone who looks like George Clooney, thinks like Amal Clooney. Has a blameless past and comes from a "nice" background.

Finishes like Aguerro and is available for under a million quid , ( and of course who wants to live in Glasgow) and is as passionate about Celtic as Griffiths is.

Oh yes ! and doesn't mind being routinely insulted by his own fans eg referring to him as the Thumb , my Thumb etc. the very insult which sevco scum abused him with.

    Good luck with that one.

Honestly man, some of the folk who are big Griffiths admirers are doing him a great disservice with all the * their spouting. Aye we don't think he's up to it because of his look? The fact he's Scottish? Incredible man.

Everyone that's criticised him have been incredibly fair and impartial, Its actually one of the best debated threads we've had were there's no real extreme opinions and everyone is agreed on what he brings to the team whether they think he's the future or not.

Considering his first full 50. 90 min games he has scored 39 in they 50. Larson couldn't even bring that to us in his first full 90 mins. Just remember that. * the haters he's a brill player and would be even better if Cole played beside him as ciftci just doesn't cut the mustard at Celtic regardless
