Hinkel is streets ahead of Wilson and Caddis. Its like comparing Messi and Lafferty ! Wilson can defend , but his distribution is frightening ! If he gets the ball to feet he looks like a startled rabbit ! Then all he does eventually is punt it up the pitch ! As someone said earlier , people will realise how good Hinkel is , if he goes ! Mr Consistent, just gets on and makes no fuss ! Look at his reaction when Lafferty tackled him, lots of people would have decked that * !

He's missed one game mate lol

I'm pretty sure it's just a slip of the tongue and people are reading too much into it.

As has been said, Hinkel has been great for us this season, one of the very few "silver linings" from the many clouds this season.

Hinkel ok at going forward - But dont ask him to defend the back post as his awareness or lack of it is shocking and i include Mr "Row Z" Lee Naylor in the same sentence as well - time for right good clearout.

Exactly! people seem to think ok going forward and * at defending is what we need for a right back. Once we start keeping clean sheets then we'll start winning the league again.

Danny Alves couldnt defend to save himself but he'd be welcome with open arms

Do people really think that Celtic can find and finance a full back that can defend and support the midfield without flaw?

If we got a glorified right side centre back that didnt get forward, people would want them out too. People are asking Celtic for a white elephant because the only full back that I know of that can defend and attack in equal measure is Maicon and what it would take to get him would send Celtic into administration!!

For what we pay, Hinkel is a good option

Decisions like this, to eave out Hinkel and put Braafheid on the bench, are what worries me about Lenny getting the job. It just doesn't make sense, unless Hinkel is injured.

I know Hinkel has flaws in his game but this year he has been one of our best players (granted not that difficult) so he should be in the team.

i thought it was because of the u21 rule

The rebuilding has started - Celtic FC - Hoops-apocalypse.co.uk

Andreas Hinkel and Georgios Samaras were dropped from the squad following the Hampden humiliation but Lennon claims he has not closed the door on the pair. He said: "They are still part of the squad. I had to pick a team to win the game. It could have been anybody. Don't forget you have three under-21s to pick as well so sometimes you have international players in the stand.

They played together at Seville, his name just sprung to mind :52:

My point is that most full backs are either good defensively or offensively, rarely good at both. You have to remember that Hinkel, a German International, is good value for our money and getting a better full back that fits the Celtic system (attacking football) needs to support the midfield and beyond.

We will probably never get a full back that a master of defensive duty but always an offensive threat

The only fullbacks who are good at attacking and defending are maicon and cole, we may be asking to much from hinkel, hes improved defensively this season and getting better at the back post, youd have to be an idiot to think hes not far better than wilson and caddis, at least he can cross a ball, pass a ball and can control a ball, wilson cant even do that

He's another player that seems to split the fans down the middle.

I think he's a cracking player. Crunches into tackles and gets forward to support.

Its not been his best season but then who has had a good season?

Not sure what Provan was on about. I think the reason Wilson was in there instead was just because we have nothing really to play for now so its good for him to get a bit of experience and get his match fitness back. Hinkels been our best player this season IMO. Samaras can be a great player, but he has too many 'off days' for me.

I do get your point but we're so poor at the back just now I think you need defenders to defend. Nobody loves an overlapping fullback more than me but like lenny said we're soft at the back.

I suppose my anger from last week has been getting the best of me but I just want players to concentrate, cut out mistakes and give 100 percent. Something none of them have been doing all season.

He's consisent alright, he never tackles back and caught out of position too many times. Yes he talks a good game, but as a defender he is real poor. Watch the Ross County goal, Hearts goal against us at Tynecastle and Dynamo Moscow's goal at CP to see where I'm coming from, he is a libility.

If Hinkel is considered one of our better players or consistent performers then I fear the worst for Celtic Football Club. Just look at the likes of Danny Mc Grain, Davie Hay, Jim Craig and Jackie Mc Namara and your talking class right full backs, this guy is a third rate imposter.

The reason Lennon is not picking him or Samaras or Fortune is that none of them have the stomach for a fight, welost that when Robson and Hartley were allowed to leave Celtic.

I'm much happier with the attitude today - so much more focus to the players. Maybe that's Lenny's influence kicking in, and if so, great.

But I must admit, I thought Provan was talking through his * when he was giving it this "with Lennon picking the team, you can forget about Hinkel" stuff. And amazingly, it looks like he was right.

Have to wonder just what Lenny's thinking on - freezing out the one outfield player who's actually been consistently good this season? Wilson didn't even look the part until Hinkel came on and he switched to centreback...
