    Lee Naylor

I have seen alot of posts tonight blaming Lee Naylor for alot of the problems tonight. Personally I thought he was one of the better performers once more. In the 1st half Celtic did what they were asked to do, they did a good job and created a few chances along the way.

Lee Naylor seemed to pop up everywhere. He was kicked in the head and was invloved in a clash of heads as he cleard his lines, it was also his header that cleared a shot from a rebound if I remember correctly.

He managed to get forward on a few occassions and, admittedly, hit one wildly overhit cross.

I feel- over the course of the night- most of our problems came down our left side. If you pay attention to most of the off the ball action the you will see that Villareal's RB was left unmarked on every occassion, left to roam forward by Shaun Maloney. Thus leaving Lee Naylor with two men essentially.

Shaun Maloney's 1st touch tonight was woeful, on a few occasions he was lucky enough to get himself out of jail by winning a free kick through his lack of control.

WGS himself said that Villareal wether they meant to or not seemed to focus on one part of our team in the 2nd half, the left side, and through this they commanded the 2nd half and won the game.

All too often the through ball split Maloney and Wilson mostly because SM was missing and therefore Naylor had two en to mark. It was seen on Saturday when McGeady came on. He changed the game with his ability to take players on and put a tackle in for the winner. Maloney wouldnt do and can't do either..... if you watch him he consistently cuts inside into traffic and therefore trouble. He did so a few times when he was deep in our half and caused trouble by not simpliy clearing his lines.

In many ways he is similar to Samaras. Samaras prefers to come outside the defender and go down the line, which inevitably cuts his angle even more, it becomes very predictable.

Lee Naylor seems to be becoming a scape goat for many a Celtic supporter, at least on this forum, but in real terms he recieves no protection by the cowardly lion that is Maloney.

naylor is slow, weak, poor crosser of the ball, decent passer, very poor positionally decent tackler,

although i do think he tries hard so fair play to him
