Thomson was actually on the bench a few times around the turn of the year but then probably the signing of Armstrong and Mackay Steven knocked him back down the pecking order in as far as making the match day 18, I think he will make his debut this season when we wrap the title up.

Don't think so, benchwarmers at best I reckon.

The next crop need to be a big improvement.

Ahh that's the one cheers lads :50: great news hin being back in the squad, hopefully get some game time at the end of the season when the league is wrapped up.
Ronny certainly loves idea of using the youth system as he's said many times and had done so at his last club, think once a few players off at the end of the season a few more young faces will be in the squad.

Just wish we had a young striker to bring through, Watt had too big an ego for a one hit wonder so far in his career and a failed loan and Attajic what happened to him? Looked good I thought just never made the cut then I suppose.

Ah didn't know that. Good to know Ronny has him in the picture.

Hopefully he does. As I said, there's no harm blooding them now. The league is won and had been before a ball was kicked in Aug. If the lads are of a good quality then they won't be the difference in us dropping points to give them 20 mins here and there.

Hope that's not the case but let's see if they impress. In fairness did you think the same of Henderson when he was still in the u19? Do you see a lot of the u19 matches?

Would love to have 6/7 academy graduates as first team regulars.

When was the last time we had 3? 2006 with McManus, McGeady and Maloney? 6-7 would be at least a decade off imo, and logic tells you by looking at the lack of quality we've produced over the last decade, that has slim to no chance of happening.

I hope we maintain our primary focus on buying talented young players from all round the world. In 2015 and beyond, the idea of us being made up of academy graduates is beyond a pipe dream.

You need to give youth a chance so they do not stagnate, 16-21 are the most important years as a young player breaking through, they first team action at the highest possible level. Lennon had his favourites and was reluctant to give any youth players a proper chance of experience.
Ronny will be more confident next season in bringing through youth players, the likes of Fisher, O'Connel, Henderson will get more game time to see if they can make the cut, to be honest them 3 have proven themselves as Premiership quality from the time they've played already.
We need to be bringing as much Scottish talent through as possible, the SFA & SPFL need to implement more rules in having homegrown players, there's already the u21 rule isn't there?

Lennon probably gave more youth players a game than most previous managers. That gets over looked...

    Fisher 19
    Fraser 17
    O'Connell 18
    Toshney 18
    Chalmers 18
    Towell 19
    Herron 18
    Irvine 19
    McGeouch 18
    Henderson 17
    George 17
    Twardzik 18
    Slane 20
    Keatings 21
    Atajic 19
    Watt 18

All made their first team competitive debuts under Lennon.

He also regularly played young players like Rogne, Matthews and Wanyama when they were 19.

Caddis, O'Dea, Conroy, Lawson, Bjarnason, Carey, O'Brien, McGowan, Sheridan were the only 9 youth players who got a game under Strachan or Mowbray in those 5 years.

16 under Lennon compared to 9 under Strachan and Mowbray. The Lennon players also played a lot more games about 220 compared to about 70 from the Strachan/Mowbray players.

    You forgot Forrest.

Also, McManus, Beattie, Maloney and McGeady really burst onto the scene under Strachan in that first year or two.

    17. You forgot Forrest!

Lennon was more likely to give youngsters debuts but he never gave many a run in the team to really see what they were made of. Possibly because they weren't good enough, who knows.

Also, I think you should give Strachan a bit more credit. He didn't give Maloney, McGeady or McManus their debuts but he did make them first team players, which they weren't before. Ross Wallace as well, to an extent.

They had already played a lot of games though. Like McGeady had probably played about 40 games before Strachan and Maloney probably about 90 games, Beattie about 40 games.

McManus did really though, he had only played 9 games before Strachan took over.

I'd still say they all broke through properly when Strachan came. Same with Ross Wallace, as Born Green pointed out.

I think Calvin Miller seems promising, hopefully having a wean doesn't stop him from flourishing:56:

Kidding of course. In general I think the vast majority of our youth players aren't up to much. Been like that for a while now, whether it is something we are doing wrong or whatever I don't know. Definitely an area Deila will want to strengthen and make more use out of though. That is clear.

We have to get more cover for the left side of the team," said Deila. "We do not have many options who are left-footed.

"KT is coming up, and he can be an option. But we are following this situation very closely, of course."

Tierney has already made an impact with the Development Squad, not least when he scored from the edge of his own penalty box in game against Hearts in October.

The quick bit of thinking and perfect execution came after the visiting keeper stepped forward to launch a free-kick from just inside his own half, and has become a YouTube hit. But Tierney has caught the eye of the manager for his overall performances and development.

The Wishaw teenager first came to the Norwegian's attention soon after he took over from Neil Lennon, and was sent to Helsinki in August with the shadow squad which played Spurs in a friendly.

John Collins, in charge for the day, sent him on when the London club went four in front on the hour mark. Tierney, who has been at Celtic since he was seven, admitted at the time it was all a blur.

"Before I came on, I wasn't even thinking about the score," he said. "All I had in my head was that I was playing for the team I've always loved and supported.

"I just heard the shout for me to warm up. But I just froze. I didn't know what to feel. It was just unbelievable. It's been my life's ambition to play for Celtic."

That brief taste left Tierney wanting more, and Deila could be ready to give him that chance in the next few weeks.

He said: "Kieran is very talented boy. He has something extra. Hopefully, we can try him in the next few games.

"It's not easy to bring in young players because every game is so important for us. But he shows in training that he is someone to really, really look at.

Tierney apparently not in the squad today against Huns.

Perhaps means he will see some game time on Wed?
