Also, it's unfair to say Dalglish won more in half the time. If memory serves me correctly Dlaglish had the sum total of one league title more than McStay and McStay won most of his trophies in the first half of his Celtic career.

McStay could then have left and probably would have had major success abroad yet chose to stick it out here surrounded by mediocrity.

    Caesar for me.

Jinky and Larsson were clearly geniuses, as was Dalglish in a way, but that man was a great leader, on and off the pitch.
Tall and strong and ingrained with integrity.....he epitomised what a leader should be, and was also a very good footballer.

Paul McStay was a brilliant footballer that just happened to play for Celtic at a bad time, he could have went and played for any top side but he stayed at Celtic and we should be glad he did

McStay was the poster boy when I was growing up but I much preferred the class of Collins. He wasn't in the same league in terms of quality as Dalglish though and any football fan would tell you that.

As was the side Henrik played in, he made us an infinitely better side just by being in the team. Did McStay achieve that on the same level as Henrik?

Doesn't take away from the fact he was an unbelievable striker on a World level. Sutton and Burley are a pair of dicks, they were both brilliant for Celtic as well. You can separate the man from the player.

From whom, me? Because I don't think he deserves to be talked about as the greatest ever Celt? Seriously?

The nit picking at him being voted in our best 11 by supporters, your reply was to point out it being in a midfield 5, which is here nor there. That's what I picked up on..

My point regarding that was it wasn't a vote for the best 11 players as suggested. It was the best players for each position. It wasn't intended to be disrespectful it was a fact.

If they had made it a 4-4-2 does he get dropped or does Murdoch or Auld? The formation has been made to accommodate people (which is fair enough) but was McGrain a centre half? Did McNeill play consistently as a sweeper in a back 3?

If you are making formations around players to fit them in does McStay deserve a place over Jimmy McGrory?

But surely whatever formation picked, those 11 in it must be classed or looked at as Celtic greats by many? Otherwise they wouldn't be voted..

Yes, McStay is widely considered a Celtic great I've never suggested otherwise...

I think you could make a case for Bobby Lennox given his longevity-played in the 60's, 70's and 80's-and his phenomenal scoring record

McStay was knackered by the early 90s and was barely mobile. He stayed when, in all honesty, he should have left Celtic. The players around him were poor, and his injuries meant he really wasn't the player we needed him to be.

That shouldn't take anything away from the player he was for Celtic prior to that.

To be honest, I'm slightly too young to remember that. I only know from the documentary and whatever I'd heard from my Dad or whoever else.

Maybe someone will correct me, but I'm sure he got a bad injury after an international tournament when he was pretty much a cert to leave Celtic. He thought he was leaving, which is why he chucked his boots.

Agree, the question is who is the greatest ever CELT not who is Celtic's best ever player. For everything he's contributed to the club and what he has achieved its Billy McNeil for me. He has always represented Celtic brilliantly, whether as a player, manager or just in general. A real Celtic man.

As brilliant a player Henrik was he is definitely not the greatest ever Celt.

Can only choose between Larsson and Mcstay as they the only two I have seen play. Video snippets of others won't be enough to judge the rest on. Larsson for me.
