If it's Maresca then Carlos Borges and Souza better be his first signings or we riot!

I can see us signing a few City youngsters if he does come since he used to manage their EDS team… probably one of the few things I’d be quite excited about.

If it is maresca we need someone at the club McManus /O'Dea or someone with intricate knowledge of the difficult away games that come along during the season etc part of the first team. It's where for me the league is won and lost most seasons away to Hibs, hearts Livingston etc..

Celts chief executive Michael Nicholson is leading the extensive search for a boss and it’s understood Parkhead supremo Dermot Desmond has an open mind as he weighs up a host of candidates.'

Don't really want Maresca if I'm honest.

Fair enough he's Pep's assistant, but it's a different kettle of fish being the main man.

I've said that about that Guacamole * that the huns appointed. It's all very well putting the cones out and coaching, but when the spotlight shines down on you and you're in the firing line when the pressure is on then that's when we see what a guy is made of.

Not comparing Maresca to that bawbag Beale, but my point is a good assistant manager doesn't always equate a good manager, and I think Celtic isn't really the club to be having a go at it with. Ideally he would try his hand at a mid level championship side.

So much pressure here, media * etc for a rookie manager.

    No thanks.

I don't understand the Maresca thing if he wasn't good enough 2 years ago and has had a failed stint in Serie B between times why is he now good enough

He was probably our next choice after Ange. If he does get it then it just shows you we haven’t had much interest in the job.

I suspect we'll know if it's Maresca or not before Tuesday. If we properly want him we'll get him in early.

If he's not in the door by then, I think we'll have our eyes set on someone else, no reason to dally with Maresca when we have our connections with City.

AZ ALKMAAR believe they can keep hold of head coach Pascal Jansen — even if he soars to the top of Celtic’s wanted list.

SunSport understands London-born Jansen, 50, has caught the eye of the Hoops hierarchy as they look to replace Ange Postecoglou.

The highly-rated gaffer enhanced his reputation by leading the Dutch club to the Europa Conference League semi-finals.

That run included a 7-0 rout of Dundee United and was only ended by eventual winners, David Moyes’ West Ham, in the semi-finals.

Jansen’s work has also impressed Eredivisie rivals Ajax and PSV Eindhoven, who will appoint new head coaches this summer.

As SunSport already reported, Celts have embarked on a worldwide hunt for a suitable successor to new Tottenham gaffer Postecoglou.

Former manager Brendan Rodgers, Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca and Euro winner Moyes remain at the top of the betting.

But Jansen, who led AZ to fourth place in the league and Euro qualification, has emerged as a rival for the Hoops post.

AZ tied him down earlier this year to a contract until 2025 after he was linked with Ajax and PSV.

The Dutch giants, who lost the title to rivals Feyenoord, are seeking replacements for Johnny Heitinga and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ironically, Jansen would also have been in the frame for the Feyenoord post if Arne Slot hadn’t rejected Spurs to stay and lead the new title winners into the Champions League groups.

He worked as a coach in the youth and first-team ranks with PSV before being recruited by Alkmaar under former boss Slot.

After assisting Alkmaar to second spot behind Ajax when Covid hit in 2020, he ascended to the top job when Slot was poached by Feyenoord.

He hasn’t looked back since, guiding the side to third, fifth and fourth over the past three seasons, despite having to sell key players for big money. He’s never coached in Britain and lost 1-0 at Tannadice at the start of last term before thrashing United in the return.

Celts chief executive Michael Nicholson is leading the extensive search for a boss and it’s understood Parkhead supremo Dermot Desmond has an open mind as he weighs up a host of candidates.
