There was a discussion on this before not sure if it was answered..

We all know Bridgeton can be a no go area at times for celtic fans but is there anywhere that can be the same for them and they would have to be wary wearing colours?

You'll miss it if you move away.

    Probably.

Or not maybe you'll move somewhere better and not miss it, but you'll probably miss it.

Coatbridge definitely was a no-go area for the scum at one time, not too sure now though?

    Calton and Croy too?

Royston and Garngad are the same place, aren't they? When and why was the name changed, and who still uses Garngad?

That's a horrible thing to say really. Do you know how much a new lamp post will cost? :bbpd:

I liked that! Thanks for posting it.

I always mind Garngad - is it Garngad or the Garngad, btw? - because one of the Glasgow RFBs that comes over to Derry has/had "GARNGAD IRISH" on their drum. Made a lasting impression.

Headmaster of St Rochs school started a campaign for it, most people from there still call it Garngad even though that was in the 40's.

Mad Tim area though, don't know if they still do but they used to have street parties when we won the title that were mental.

Remember when younger going dennistoun celtic family there but a right little hun spot and they used to regularly battle with the Royston lot who came over the carriageway that was definitely not just an area thing and the teams colours and flags were well on show, weird set up watching it all..

Thing is though why I asked I thought the obvious one was Royston but just a little thing that separates us from them..
We stop the 10,big street party which was in Royston and all rangers supporting families on the street were paid to stay in hotels for the night..
Now would this happen in Bridgeton if the shoe was on the other foot? I doubt it very much..

Might be looking to much into it but it makes me think really then is there a no go in Glasgow for them.. Probably not..

Explains the theory that they are the scummier support..

Coatbridge doesn't count anyway Shane :bbpd:

I read about the Garngad street parties, and that it was a solidly Celtic area. :party22:

Why did the headmaster want the name changed? What connotations did/does 'Garngad' have that 'Royston' didn't/doesn't?

I remember we drove through it after we won the League in 98 on the way home, was mental.

They used to paint the walls and curbs in tri colours. Not the same now although you see the flags at a lot of houses. I think two of the big Celtic pubs shut there, think one was called the Hoops bar? Probably why its not as mental as now the * there probably just go down to the Gallowgate on those days.

There are permanent displays of Celtic tops flags and flowers in 3 places on Royston road is it called? from were boys were killed. Been there for years.

I really don't know much about Glasgow so please forgive my ignorance, but what happened?

Another thing I'd like to ask about Glasgow and Celtic areas like the Calton, Gorbals and Garngad is are they very mixed between Celtic and them? One of the posts above mentions Garngad being a Celtic area but there also being Rangers-supporting families living there... I remember once reading, perhaps on here, that Garngad is the only truly 'Celtic only' area in Glasgow.

This is a bit confusing to me as in Ireland there is very little mixing between Celtic supporters and them and certainly almost zero residential mixing.

I'd also like to know if there are areas of Glasgow where people from the Highlands predominantly settle, if anyone could say a little bit about that.
