You're right, however we should be building our team around our best player(s) McGeady being one of our best players.

Left Mid or just behind the striker, like the cup final last year where he was immense!

Through the middle , when he is down the wings he usually has 2 people marking him everytime he looks at the ball.
He has more room to loose a player in the middle and also he is * at crossing the ball.:icon_mrgreen:

The bench. * technique, both shooting and passing. A player with such poor end product should never be in the Celtic team .

Er, there's actually quite a lot of Celtic fans who rate Maloney higher than McGeady. I'm pretty much torn and would normally say Mcgeady but I have to say his final ball really frustrates me 90% of the time.

His final ball is poor I agree. However Maloney has been totally inferior to Aiden this season. He (Maloney) has been very poor and he has cost us in a number of games with his finishing.

Thing is when Aiden is playing poor he never hides, he is always taking the ball on and showing responsibility. When Maloney is playing poor he more often than not hides.

We dont have any wingers good enough. I'd rather McGinn playing more direct better crossing ability and finishing. I'd also rather McCourt if we played a 5 man midfield and gave him the freedom to attack rather than deal with his defensive duties.

He's scored more than Aiden this season and his assist record is high too.
At least Maloney is getting in positions to score.

They have both scored 4 goals and they both have 2 assists.

On his day easily the best winger we have.

i would rather see him leave, he has been in the first team for some time now and still does not seem to have improved his game, i only see two good things about him, pace and trickery but eveyrone knows now there is no variation in his play, he shows flashes of brilliance but not consistent, maybe another club could get more out of him but our coaches aint

I think it's either wing although I'd say that his crossing seems to be better when on the right hand side.

I did like him in the league cup final last season when he sat in the hole behind the striker but for him to play there regularly, his shooting would need to improve. If that did happen, then he could be very effective for us.

That was probably one of the best games I have seen him play for us. Was excellent that day and capped it off with a goal.

In that type of role he could drift to either wing as well as playing right off the front, think he could be very effective there.

I think his shooting is ok when he gets closer in. It's when he cuts in at pace or he's further out, he goes for power and puts it over. Look at his goal against Aberdeen at the start of the season or vs Villarreal last - thats the kinda thing I mean.

Would like to see him get a run in that role.

It could be done with a fit Maloney, McCourt and McGinn.

I'm beginning to think that Aiden would better suit a counter-attacking team, rather than a supposed 'pressing' team like ours (in the SPL at least).

I often see Aiden trying to simply get past players far up the pitch without much thought about what he'll do with the ball once he's beyond them, the result being having to 'look up' and assess the flow of play around him, therefore losing much of the time he actually has to play the ball. The result being that another opposition player has time to step in (for aiden to try and beat) and the player he has originally beaten has time to regain a defensive position.

In a counter attacking system, which he has the pace to knock the ball beyond opposition players and run onto, or dribble beyond, would give him greater time, space and margin of error to both assess the flow of play and make a decision on his next move.

In summary, I reckon Aiden would excel in a system where the opposition is streched when he recieves the ball, whether that be in a wide or central position. The SPL seems to see him all to often running down cul-de-sacs, where his natural ability is twarted by his lack of vision and game intelligence.
