Not brought up with it, not in any way at all. My family are all Eastern European Jews dating back for centuries. Not a single one of them has even the slightest interest in football or indeed of any sport whatsoever. As for myself, I liked football but couldn't find a club that appealed to me for quite some time.

Then one day, searching, I sat down to watch an Old Firm derby. At the time I knew nothing about it.

There was something that appealed to me about Celtic. I think it was the way they played and the look of determination and passion on the players' faces every time they were shown. That and the ugly scowls I saw on every Rangers player's face helped to turn my sympathy for the team in green and white. Rangers won the game that day but Celtic won me. I suppose it was more instinct than anything else. I don't think that I chose Celtic so much as Celtic chose me.

After that I took some time to learn about the history and identity of the club. I learned about Celtic's foundation as a charity, about the club and the fans' strong sense of justice and opposition to intolerance and irrational hatred. Then I read about the fans, of their pride in bringing friendship and joy whenever they travelled, their devotion to building close relationships with other clubs and other fans, about the Bhoys from Seville and the Fairplay awards. I heard the songs and the chants and the thunder brought to Paradise. I learned about Rangers as well. Their bigotry, their violence, their vulgar and hateful chants and their banners, and in time came to detest them as much as I came to love those who stood against them.

Now I am absolutely mad about Celtic. I've never once regretted it, not for a moment. Sometimes I wonder how it might have been if my instinct had led me the other way, and when I do I thank * or fate or chance or whatever it was that led me in the right direction.

No, not brought up a supporter.

My dad & my uncle supported Thistle growing up, cos one of their players lived on their street. My dad's pretty chilled though, and more of a Football Lover really, so I didn't get indoctrinated into Jaggery. :56:

I got into Celtic because from the time as a kid that I really started to "get" football, I always supported whichever team was playing with imagination and flair, whose players did things that made you go Wow. And when I looked at the Scottish teams, it seemed to me that Celtic was the one that embodied that spirit of swashbuckling, inventive, skilful play.

Then when I reached the point where I got my first season book, we had Lubo and Henrik in the team (and the not-forgotten Bobby Petta!) which was such a blast.

Then I started to find out more about the history, about the club's charitable origins, then about the St Pauli connection, and the anti-racist, anti-fascist thing, and it all just made sense together.

My dad passed away when I was only 7. Began to read pieces about the Old Firm and the liquidated club's policy of not playing RC's. That combined with Irish connections of the Celts meant inevitably becoming one of the faithful.

Cannot think of anyone from my family who isn't a Celtic fan. We all love the Celtic.

Me and my dad are the only celtic fans in my family, everyone else supports aberdeen. it whaould definitely have been easier for me to support aberdeen as its 45 mins in the car rather than a 5 hour bus run, but my dad started taking me to games and i chose celtic.

Literally 3 hours after I was born, me old man put a wee green and white hat on me and took a picture!! 29 in a few weeks so supported the club me whole life. All my mum's family were bluenoses and lined up outside ready to take me to the dark side. Best thing me old man has ever done :celt_2:

Nope. Didn't grow up with any kind of football enthusiasm in the home. My best friend growing up was a fan, though, and came from a Celtic family, so maybe that influenced me. Whatever the extent, my ardor for the club was mostly due to watching them play and loving to play it myself. Would've loved to play for Celtic. :54:
