On a serious note, we really do have to move away from Scottish football if we want to see any progress as a club.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching us as long as we're playing exciting, attacking football, but I think we've hit something of a glass ceiling as things are.

As things stand, we can succeed domestically, and we can qualify for the Champions League, but we're never going to be competitive in it, which is a real travesty for a club of our stature.

I guess it just depends what floats your boat and what you enjoy about following any team or sport. I absolutely agree that there would be a huge culture shock if celtic went to any league in which they would likely be mid sized fish in a huge bowl. But personally I would enjoy it a lot more than watching the same team dominate indefinately (even if that team is celtic)

    Good analogy!

In my student days I had a flatmate who would always go the best and richest team in championship manager from the start and would just enjoy spending season after season pumping everyone. I would go a diddy conference team and spend seasons trying to get to the top. When I did, after a few seasons I got bored and switched it off.

Really just depends what you are in the game for

Just to return to the topic...

I'd love us to play in a new Atlantic league ( minus zombeez , too new a club , why should they?)

Forget Uefa competitions... They're making it closed shop and this year could be one of the last us or any Scottish side ever qualify .

People WILL get bored of the 'closed shop' same teams every time set up and will vote with their wallets.

The atlantic league will soon be seen as fresh and exciting and the ' big boys' will be desperate to join. We just won't let them.

I believe the next scandal with FIFA or UEFA should be our dawn.

Id like the league's that are outside the big few to punish the governing bodies.

Say nation's like Scotland, Switzerland, Czech Republic and there like split away and make a new European league. It wouldn't compete with UEFA initially (possibly ever), however it could be a proper democratic system with terrific football worth watching.

Aye I can feel UEFAs fear even now at the prospect of their competitions being challenged by fixtures such as Motherwell v Dukla Prague.

uefa has to do something about the financially huge clubs snapping all the worlds talent up and sitting on it for years

this degrades the football at the big smaller clubs for want of a better phrase the ajax, the feyenoord the celtic the anderlecht the spartak moscows the salzburgs

if we created an atlantic league tommorow we could have the best of the rest outside of the champions league but they have bagged all the young talent and they would poach even more of the talent from all our clubs, the governing body has to stop the asset stripping by the likes of chelsea and the rest

tbh i would rather the game went back to the 3 foreigner rule but it isnt gonna happen
so there has to be limits imposed to stop the greedy getting ever greedier and destroying all the rest of the clubs by hoarding all the worlds best young players

I like the idea of an Atlantic league. Other than the Huns there are some great teams there and if that was the division (or something similar) I think that could be an enjoyable league.

Let the European big guns have their (so called) Champions League with the same 4 teams in the semi finals each year. The Champions League is a bore a * now. Outside Celtic's games I haven't watched a CL game in about ten years because it is the same old * that win * all at home getting to the later stages. I think a league involving big clubs from the smaller footballing nations would be interesting. Certainly more interesting than a local derby as the CL final.

Be careful what you wish for. Joining the English set-up would imo be a one way ticket to the disintegration of what makes the club what it is to so many of us. Yes the league up here is * poor & it hurts to see our great club humbled in these big European nights but I would never want to lose the affinity I have for the club at the expense of being used as a play thing for some mega rich billionaire who wouldn't think twice about playing hard & fast with the history of our club. There is disillusionment aplenty amongst many diehard English fans with the way the game is going down there.

Again you need to see the bigger picture. Do you want to be a tourist club? Where the people that fill our stands are people who don't really care about our club and our values and are just there to take selfies? Why does Celtic have an atmosphere that is unlike anywhere in England? Why are we such a big club?

Think about us versus Swansea. They have better players, they are paid a lot more than our team and that trend will continue. More people will watch Swansea's games than ours but I would still rather be us. Staying out of the EPL brings with us an identity which is entirely different from that type of club.

We need to embrace who we are and be proud of it, rather than chasing around the likes of Rupert Murdoch and the Oil Barons with cap in hand.

Staying in Scotland will see us slip further and further down, and we will be in a constant rebuilding phase and laying down the foundations for future success. Success that means winning the league domestically, crushing the likes of motherwell, and the occasional appearance in europe (it's only going to get harder to qualify).

    Pish in other words.

I actually think there's an argument to be made that falling further behind in Europe and financially would be more damaging to our club identity than joining the English league, which could actually strengthen it.

The only thing we should be doing is promoting our own league to the best of our capabilities. This league has potential and there are a lot of well supported teams who with the right person in charge can challenge us and make the league a better standard, hearts and hibs look like they're going places for example.

If an Atlantic league is going to happen then sure we can't miss out on that, however that and England should be at the back of our minds.

An Atlantic league is bound to happen. With the euro giants colluding to keep the smaller nations out, surely there is plans in place to counter this arrangement?
