The St Mirren team that won the Scottish Cup in 1987 with a 17 year old Paul Lambert was the last team to win it consisting of only Scottish players. (heard it on the Paul Lambert podcast on the Celtic website, well worth a listen)

This is a great book for anyone into strange football trivia…

I’ve not seen my copy for a while… but my favourite (think
It was this book) was about a game in Mexico or Central America where the ref sent some nutball off in the first half… he came out anyway for the second half carrying a gun and shot the referee, the opposition manager and sone of the opposition players..

I wonder how Var would have dealt with that one.?!?

One of the best stats ever is guiseppe bergomi played at the 82, 86,90 and 98 World Cup finals but didn’t play in 1 qualifiers game

was called up last minute for the 82 World Cup as an 18 year old just days before World Cup started cause a player was injured, because Italy won the World Cup that year in those days you qualified automatically as winners, so no qualifiers for 1986 World Cup, then because Italy were hosting the 90 World Cup qualified automatically again so no qualifiers, then in 1998 as a 34 year old another player got injured and he was called up again just days before World Cup started

Apparently in 94 sacchi never rated him, but to play at 4 World Cup final s and never to have played in 1 qualifier match, mibee I’m a sad statto but think that’s some stat

No wonder the Huns are so bitter, now that they are only allowed two.

Celtic's first ever goalscorer also played for the huns that season, and is the first Catholic to have played for both sides
