Was it a red?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by slowburner, Oct 1, 2013.

  1. The thing is he admitted what he done was wrong in his statement on the Celtic site as well, so he's saying himself that he kicked out at Ronaldo Jr. He says it was harsh, which is true because it's hardly a leg-breaking tackle, but unfortunately in the game today a player just cannot react that way else they run the risk of being sent off.

Was a red card. He has admitted to it as well, so not sure why there is still a debate going on about it. He will be missed against Ajax hopefully he will learn from this.

Either way it was * stupid of Brown to do that. If he was a clever player he would have realised what Neymar was like beforehand and surely going in for afters is playing with fire but he still did it anyway and as a result he let everyone down big time. Can't believe lennon said ''I don't think I need to justify the defence of my captain." * he let down his team, the fans and lennon himself.

For me Brown made a bad decision and gave the ref a decision to make. For that Brown ultimately has to be to blame.
Having said that while he is far from being alone in his behaviour in the modern game last night Neymar's reaction was no question a deliberate faking of an injury in an attempt to get another player sent off and for that reason I am glad that he was booed so loudly the rest of the game and I have nothing but contempt for him. A total contrast to the ovation which Iniesta got when he was leaving the field. I have trememdous respect for many of the Barcelona players, for their club and what they represent. Not so for Neymar who has show while he is one of the worlds top players he is a player without class.

I think this is a crucial aspect that people are missing.

No one on here is disputing that Brown was reckless and irresponsible and deserved the yellow card that he was about to get. There's no "green specs" or "green plastic bag over head" danger * about that.

What was truly shocking and in itself a breach of the rules was that the referee allowed himself to be bullied - by a combination of cheating from Neymar (writhing around) and *-stirring from Busquets - into changing his yellow into a red.

Now, appeals to the letter of the law and calling it a "Stonewall" this and "all day long" that doesn't change the fact that the ref changed his decision under pressure. So even the ref didn't think it was a straight red until he got nagged into it by Busquets and the how-long-have-I-left-doc antics of
    Neymar.

The rules state that both violent conduct and play-acting must be punished. We didn't see that last night (and we will never see it).

I agree with this. I seriously think he should do it, just to make the point.

I'm not. It's just a logical conclusion as to how Brown would look.

Don't be so harsh on yourself. I was impressed.

I agree Brown would look the mangina, but surely it's tempting? Wouldn't you like to see Neymar have his face rubbed in a bit of "simulation"?

Play-acting - not violent conduct (this isn't the 1970s) - is the scourge of the contemporary game and needs to be cracked down on, and personally I'd love to see Neymar's face if he got a taste of his own medicine. Call me petty - I'll answer to it.

I think it would also ignite a debate on the issue. Admittedly a very short-lived and futile one.

The way I saw it, the referee brought out his yellow as Neymar went down, then decided it warranted a red when Brown brushed him with his leg. Fabregas and Busquets both tried to appeal to the ref but he quickly told them to * off.

I don't know why people are getting their knickers in a twist over this.....no matter how soft a swipe it was....it was intentional....he was getting a yellow and that stupid swipe got him sent off....he's openly admitted it was wrong of him to do so...how you can't accept that I just can't understand.

  14. Brown was a fud he knew exactly what he was doing . He got very lucky v Karagandy when he should have been sent off for a stamp.

    Spot on that.

  18. The referee never got nagged into it by Busquets. The ref had the yellow out for the initial foul that Broony committed on Ronaldo Jr., which was a bookable challenge. He changed it from yellow to red once he learned of the kick out probably by being informed by the linesman.

This.... it could be said that he showed 'strong' refereeing in changing his mind.

We/Brown have no complaints, we need to take the punishment we get.

Personally, I think it will be the standard 1 game.

My *. Savagely attacking beautiful pure little Neymar in a Champions League game? He'll get an extended 3 match ban and we'll have to hope Ledley recovers ASAP.
