dunno viper a think you do the great man a disservice,av never watched any of the others you mention on a weekly basis, but henrik was consistent as *,even when we were pish under dr jo and(albeit briefly)john barnes,he stood out like a beacon,a model pro and superb teammate, great attitude and never spat the dummy out when tosh mckinlay nutted him!a know what you're sayin about the standard of the spl but he ALWAYS scored in europe and for his country against good opposition, celtic got the best of him and for that am truly grateful, but i believe he would have held his own anywhere:50:

not one to labour the point at all are you????

    OK OK OK

we get it, you only think that at anyone time there are only three or four world class players playing in world football. you think that only the top 3/4 players in the world count as being world class.

ok thats your opinion. but i don't agree with your definition. i think it's a bit silly to say there can only ever be 3/4 of these players.

i would say a world class player is one who has the ability to light up or make a telling difference on the world's biggest footballing stage (ie a champion's league final) and be a master of their craft.

Ithink players can be world class in a season i.e would they get in a world eleven team that year.henrik would have for a good number of years .
If he had left at his peak i am sure we would see him lauded by the media as world class :icon_mrgreen:however, by being loyal to us & electing to play on tattie patches every few weeks & getting less protection from the refs than he would have got abroad his world class stature is debated
    for me world class :50:

    Let the people sing
    course hes worldclass.

He showed loyalty to celtic for years. Loyalty to clubs in this day and age is a rare thing. Proved critics wrong by scoring goals for man utd in the primiership, played for barcelona (the best club team inthe world) and effectively won them the european cup coming on as a sub against arsenal.

    You think

So he would have been picked for any 1st 11 in his time ahead of Raul, Ronaldo, Ronaldhino, Van Nistelroy, Henry etc...Up Front?

I dont thiink so mate, to be honest, would have struggled to make the subs bench...

And to some of the others dissing the thread, its a debate, you wont change my mind on it, as said, its a carry on from a conversation last night, we have differing opinions, but there is no badness or * going on in the thread.

I loved larsson as much as any of you, just dont think he was as good as the best in the world, we were fortunate to have the man, great player.

As said, its just a question and a debate

At his prime he was at celtic in a league that has no respect in most nations even it's own and therefore didn't have the exposure that your "elite" did but even then he still got golden shoe and broke british records when there was still class players down south and in europe (latter more in regards to Golden shoe), even during his later years he showed world class play, movement, finishing, intelligence and kept his form up, his world class status was well earned as he kept up his form through out his playing carrer.

really most points are void as your "elite" play for the best clubs in the world during their prime and got the exposure were as Larsson did not as he was one of a few players in his generation who were truly loyal to the team he played for, there was a reason why Man u once wanted him for £15mill.

your "elite" played for the biggest in europe in their prime, they got the exposure, they got the hype and larsson simply never no matter what he did on any level as he was with celtic so to me it seems like you only think the "elite" can only play for the biggest clubs in the prime whic has made this debate really a non starter

I've read a lot of posts comparing him to Zidane,Maradona etc. These guys were the very best players at their time. You do not need to be the BEST player in the world to be world class. Its like saying Hagi, Stoichkov, Suker at his peak and Savivevic were not world class as they weren't voted world player of the year instead of Romario, Van Basten etc.

I do actually think that the best players in the world play for the elite.

This has been provan throughout the years, every winner of the world and european player of the year play for the best clubs in the world in the best leagues.

    thats a fact matey

Larsson never played for any of these clubs in his prime, case in point

All the people who are saying you can't class him as world class cos he played in a poor league in scotland need to remember that when we went into European ties we were the small fish and his performances were nothing short of magical where at times he carried the team with his goals
