Yes it does. If he was going to buy Dutch defenders it would be from: Daley Blind, Joël Veltman (from Ajax) or Stefan de Vrij, Daryl Janmaat, Terence Kongolo, Bruno Martins Indi (all Feyenoord). He obviously rates them higher than Van Dijk as that's why he took them to the World Cup and not him. Considering the teams they play for they wouldn't cost an arm and a leg either.

So United won't be developing any players at all? They will only be signing ready made players?

I'm pretty sure there is development in all these players.

    Daley Blind - 24
    Joel Veltman - 22
    Bruno Martins Indi - 22
    Stefan de Vrij - 22
    Terence Kongolo - 20
    Daryl Janmaat - 24

    Don't you??

Yip - but clearly VG feels their development is further on in regards to the World Cup.

Personally I don't think a move to a club like United will happen this quickly, but I don't see why that means VG wouldn't want him, just because he didn't pick him for the WC squad.

I don't doubt VVD's ability, but its clear to me in Van Gaal's mind he rates these players higher and would go for one of them ahead of VVD. Give it another season and he might think differently.

As a side point the Dutch really do produce some fine players. Virgil at 22 is one of the finest defenders I've seen in Scotland for many a year yet he can't even get into their squad and the guys keeping him out are so young as well. If you look at some of the demolitions handed out by Holland to Scotland youth teams recently the standard of player they produce is awesome. We are miles behind them.

Regularly visit Celtic Newsnow site everyday but was first time I seen an article from this site on it, got a bit of a surprise actually. Good article though it's true the money that's spent down there is obscene.

Also this nonsense with diddy clubs i.e Southampton actually able to take our best players off us and the size of the club we are has to stop some time. Hope Lawwell gets this Atlantic league idea sorted some day.

I always remember the Stephen Hughes / Aberdeen saga from a few years back, when Aberdeen offered him the best money they could, putting him in line with top earners.

Norwich - then in the 3rd tier of English football - were able to offer him 300% of the wages Aberdeen were.

Multiply that effect to Celtic - with far larger capabilities in terms of wage provision than any other team in SPL - as well as ANY * in the EPL, and it's even more exaggerated.

We cannot compete - and while the TV deals down there exist, combined with the "fair play" rules that see PSG "penalised" before then taking the complete and utter * out of the whole equation in making David Luiz the most expensive defender in the history of football, then Celtic cannot progress.

We are not alone; of course we aren't. However, doesn't stop me thinking predominantly about Celtic situation for obvious reasons....coming to the conclusion it's all pretty * up.

For some reason I'm kind of resigned to losing him in the summer.

If Deila can convince him to stay then it will be a real feather in his cap.

That Dutchman taking over at Southampton could be the worst thing for us. Will be pretty disgusted if he leaves after 1 season.

Read somewhere that Swansea were interested in him but are only willing to offer £6m. They can * right off if that's true.

If he goes to Southampton, he's daft. Lovren's already stated publicly that he won't be going back to St Mary's because they're * next season.
