    This would be a more poignant image to remember that war

    It is simply glorifying the war. Much the same as the image of Churchill these days is glorifying the second war.

    There was no naivety to the war, they where looking a war, England got involved willingly, they where not attacked by the Germans as far as i recall.
    The image should only be used to condemn the war, not to support or commemorate it.

    Yes but what we did have was an alliance with France and Belgium and we were always going to honour that alliance and lets be honest we could never have sat by and watched the Germans invade 2 key allies right on our doorstep. In fact no country/empire wanted war minus Austria Hungary and even then they just wanted to crush the Serbs and try to restore some stability to their dying empire but everyone was prepared for the inevitability of it and once Russia mobilised in support of Serbia everything just fell like dominoes.

    If some of those dead were MP's and in every war some MP's got sent into the front line i think all of a sudden governments would find a way to avoid wars.
    I think about half of the government sent in before the troops should do it.:icon_mrgreen:

    Hitler and Kitchener would have a lot in common.

    If there is no difference then surely you wouldn't be of the opinion that 'another Hitler' coming into power would be a good thing. Unless of course you would welcome a Kitchener like politician.

    * you're back.

    Anyways here's my two cents.... remembering wars is ok, if the purpose of remembering it is so that humans can learn from such mistakes and hopefully avoid such needless genocide again (although they didn't initially after the first world war).

    Wars should be remembered as an unnecessary part of life.

    So I guess you would agree that saying it would be a good thing to have another Hitler in power is, while acting horrified by Kitchener, is completely nonsensical?

    I would much prefer a German facist to a English one.

    Its much like asking a Irish person do they prefer to still be ruled by English facists or German facists.
    I know which one i would choose.
