they havent gone away you know! its 5 days before the start of the season and we have 1 senior goalie ,3rd choice last year do you really think lawell is playing a blinder getting a player we are in desperate need of.i hope if we get him barkas turns out to be a top keeper because if he aint at least as good as forster there will serious pressure on him

Keeper Vasilios Barkas has arrived in Glasgow to complete his £5.5million switch to Celtic.

The Greek international is ready to sign a four-year contract with the Scottish champions after a deal was agreed with AEK Athens.


Barkas is set to have a medical with a transfer close to announcement.

The 26-year-old’s personal package has been deemed acceptable to him and his advisors and, barring any last-minute complications, the Dutch-born star will sign and join Neil Lennon's squad ahead of Sunday’s Premiership opener against Hamilton Accies.


Celtic are understood to have thrashed out a deal with AEK which will see them pay an initial fee of £4.5m with potentially £1m more being paid in add-ons over the term of Barkas’ stay

 

Waiting for Forster to turn up at the contract signing and choke slam Barkas, setting up a contract on a pole match between the two at half time on Sunday.

Exactly what me and many others have been banging in about for a decade and more now.

Fair money spent on a key position, in a player at a good age with a decent pedigree.

His time here could go in any direction, but the fact that we have at least went and done some scouting, research identified and paid a fair price for a key position is all we ask for.
If he is a dud, we can all accept that, it happens in football. But if he is a success, then by * it will be a great success I am sure.

The most impressive thing in this situation to Add to all that youve said mate....is we’ve done all this after being strung a tale and hedged all our bets on Forster to return this summer. I think that’s the impressive think from the board, we’ve acted quickly and not gone with the cheap option of keeping Bain because “we couldn’t get our number 1, hard luck us”. Buzzing about this signing more than forster

 

I agree and applaud the board for not being strung along for too long with Forster. They've moved on and haven't cut corners with relying on Bain as number 1.

Having said that, Barkas is definitely the cheaper option compared to Forster. I'm not knocking it though as we're gonna pay decent money for a crucial position and gap in our squad, like you said.

I'd have been over the moon with Forster. We know exactly what we were getting with him and is easily the best keeper for us in the last 10+ years and by some distance. I'm devastated we're not getting Forster but he clearly would like a crack elsewhere. Hopefully Barkas will make us all forget Forster.
