  1. All fair enough, but me personally, I would never support an Independent Scotland, but that’s a whole different thread all together...

    :50:

  2. We are a Scottish club, Scotland is in Great Britain, the British flag is the union jack, what's the problem ?

  3. The name Celtic was chosen to try to bridge the gap between the Scottish and the Irish community not separate them.

"Celtic Football Club is a Scottish football club with proud Irish links. The primary business of Celtic is as a football club. It is run on a professional business basis with NO POLITICAL AGENDA. However, the Club has a wider role and the responsibility of being a major Scottish social institution promoting health, well being and social integration."

That was taken from page 4 of the last Celtic View that I bought.

"Celtic Football Club is for people who want to support a football club that strives for excellence in Scotland and in Europe, is proud of it's history, supportive of it's local community and seeks to support the following aims: 'To maximise all opportunities to diassociate the Club from sectarianism and bigotry of any kind. To promote Celtic as a Club for all people, regardless of gender, age, religion, race or ability."

So Celtic is not a vehicle for the Irish community in Scotland to celebrate their roots, it's a club for anyone who wants to support them.

  4. The Celtic and Irish connection dvd

I have already said we are based in Britain but our cause is for Ireland, which is why we are despised by the rest of Scotland and there is a anti Celtic bias.

We have Irish flags, sing Irish songs to celebrate our roots

With your last point, why are you puting words in my mouth ? Celtic have always been an all inclusive club, something that i am very proud of. I don't see anyone as lesser supporters mate. But you would have to wonder why people would choose to support Celtic and activly dislike that aspect of the clubs history and culture. After all there is 11 other clubs in the SPL to support.

  5. Where can I get it?

  6. Celtic do not have a cause for Ireland. The club has Irish links in it's history and anyone associated with the club is free to celebrate that but it's a club run with no political agenda.

  7. Im sure you could download it as a torrent

Or if you prefer buy it online

  8. What is the cause for Ireland that Celtic exist for then? Like MintyBhoy has already pointed out, Celtic was founded to close the gap between Scottish people and people moving here from Ireland.

That’s not a cause to help Ireland. If anything, it actually helped Scotland more than Ireland...

I don’t know any Celtic supporter that does not like our past, that would just be ridicules. But there are hundreds of thousands of Celtic supporters who have no Irish blood.

  9. Just ordered it.

  10. scottish club end of, we dont play in ireland and certainly have no intention of as far as i know, first BRITISH team to win the european cup wot do you people not understand :31:

  11. We were formed to alleviate poverty in Glasgow's east end.

    Not for Ireland :50:

  12. You see we as if it means everyone. I've been a Celtic fan all my life but feel no affinity for Ireland. I like them for the football only, not for any Irish identity.

  13. Celtic are linked with Irishness whether you like it or not, the board may want to distance themselves from it, but the majority of the fans don't.

    Irish songs
    Irish flags
Massive support from the Irish diaspora in Scotland
Massive support in Ireland that come over from every game

Celtic isn't just another run of the mill football club, it is something more than that. My great grandad came over in the famine times to get away from British opression and helped to build Celtic park. If we fly a union jack over CP it will not be the same club that it was founded as.

  14. Another thing I'm not convinced by what Balaclava Boy said that there is an anti Celtic bias although I would admit to being proved wrong if it were the case. However, most reasonable and rational people that I've met and know (who also support other clubs) don't have an anti Celtic bias. They just don't like us because we're successful.

  15. So are Rangers a Northern Irish club ?

we are linked with Ireland because Brother Walfrid was Irish, I don't see what that has to do with IRA songs ?

  16. I would say the media in Scotland can be very anti-Celtic at times, but for the general population of the country, I fully agree with what your saying. :50:

I know Celtic are linked with Ireland. I've said that in previous posts and have never denied the fact that there are Irish links. The board are happy for people to celebrate the clubs Irish links, and I'm happy for people to do that too. But what I'm saying is that we aren't an Irish club, we're a Scottish club and there is no cause for Ireland as (must I say it again?) there is no political agenda with Celtic.

Yes there are Irish flags flown at Celtic Park and yes we have a large Irish support. That's fine. But there is a much larger Celtic support in Scotland and many of those people have no links to Ireland. Like the club's social mission statement says, Celtic is a club for all people.

  17. Id rather not see a Union Jack at Celtic Park only because I dont like what it satnds for and what it means to me.I dont think Celtic would allow it either and quite right too.

  18. Because Celtic represents the Irish diaspora in Scotland imo

  19. :97: :56:

What links have Rangers got to Norn Iron ?

Brother Walfrid would be turning in his grave if there was a butchers apron flying over CP as would the man in my avatar, google Michael Davitt.

Well you only need to look at the papers today, slagging us for singing BOTOB and oo aa up the ra, when its actually oo aa samaras. No mention of the Hearts fans Billy Boys chants (a banned song) and no reference to their sick banner.

Yes and our support in Scotland by and large display their Irish roots at Celic games through flags and songs. The thread has kinda went off topic a bit, regarding a union jack at CP. It wouldn't happen because a lot of people have suffered at the hands of the British occupation of Ireland, im sure a lot of Celtic fans are descended from and know people who have anyway.
