Specifically players who were underrated for a period of time that once people realised and made a fuss over them being underrated, they became overrated.
The example I was thinking of last night was Rodrygo. He's a great player sure and been underappreciated in the shadow of Vinicius Jr, but since someone said he's the most talented at Madrid, I feel like people have started to overrate him personally
I think there are loads of examples of these players over the years though, give me yours!

It really annoyed me that, I spent his career pointing out how good he was, he retired and then I’ve had to go woah pump the breaks, not that * good
The other example and a similar player was Dembele at Spurs, and that’s another player that was genuinely great. Alex Ferguson came out saying he regretted not signing him, praised him a lot and after that * have run wild with it. I’ve seen Spurs fans saying if they had the offer of Modric staying with Dembele going or what happened in reality, Dembele is the obvious answer. Great player but insanityBigWilly likes this. -

Craig Gordon. He was fairly decent in his prime but played for a * Sunderland team. Probably undervalued by many Celtic fans,he was fairly solid at one point.
Since he left us he's treated like the best keeper ever. Some of our fans overrate him because of Barkas and Scotland supporters do purely because his only competition is Kelly. But let's remember he got dropped for Bain.BigWilly likes this. -

How many times did he palm it straight to the penalty spot, then concede and he’d blame those infront of him because he’d made a good save and they didn’t deal with it afterwards.
Weirdly because now I love him, Joe Hart at City I used to say the same. Would miss easy ones he should save 9/10 a lot. Would pull off saves he shouldn’t.
It’s why still to this day, Fraser Forster I’d have above him every stage of his career.
The Celtic player that fits this for me perfectly is Didier Agathe. At the time he was playing, underrated the crowd was so frustrated with him. 20 years later? People remember him minus the flaws -
