Good Question, personally i would prefer the domestic double (obviously league and say Scottish Cup) plus the UEFA Cup. Several reasons for this

    1) Its a European cup
    2) It raises Celtic's coeffcient ranking pushing closer to pot 2 in a UCL draw
    3) Another Cup chance in the Euro Super Cup.
    4) Stuff it up the manky mob.

    At last some common sense.:50:

Here's another good reason, and I mention this above but no one has commented on it.

When we go out in extra time against Milan, or get * over with 5 mins to go away to Juve, a mate of mine says the same thing. "The difference between us and them is that they know what it takes to get through these ties".

If we were to win the UEFA Cup I am certain it woyuld set us up to do even better in future CL campaigns because WE would have demonstrated that wee bit extra to make sure it went our way in the big games.

In Scotland we already have that knack, in Europe we don't. Winning the UEFA Cup would probably make us do better in the CL - because we have learned what it takes to make sure we get the result in big European games.

tbh i would prefer CL for the big bucks, and i have a good feeling about this years team, because every year in GS era i felt rather worried about the team and this yr feels the same, although iv took it as a good thing and feel the trend is going to continue

I suppose I would to a degree. There are pros and cons to it

If we won the UC, I'd be wonder, what if we were in the UCL with that team. Could we have managed a quarter finals or better? Getting there would give more media and financial gains than winning the UC.

Did you see the comparison report between what we got and what rangers got for european competitions? Its a massive difference and its gotten bigger quicker than I imagined.

But I would consider it to be competing at the highest level and playing UCL football does attract very good players here and gives us the finance to get them.

Seville was an exception, we managed to play some of the best clubs and teams in Europe at that time. I wouldnt think it would happen again like the Seville run, I suspect a bit of an anti climax would happen.

UC needs a revamp by reducing the amount of club per country that can be entered, i.e. reduce the amount of clubs from England, Italy, Spain in the UCL and give those places to the smaller leagues around Europe.

pathetic to think that peoples think the best goal is to get one over on rangers rather than grow as a club tbh.

Strange post. Of course we love getting one over on our rivals. That's part and parcel of what football is.

Did you find any post where I demand Strachan be sacked ?

Obviously the champions league gives us much more cash, but apart from that point I'd love to reach an uefa cup final. Losers cup, well who knows, but if teams like valencia, porto, sevilla can be arsed to give effort and win it, I think we ain't too hoity toity for it either. I don't think we will reach a cl semi-final in the next 5-10 years, no need to mention a cl victory.

Personally I prefer an uefa cup final over a "last-16-ucl-game".

At the end of the day I'd rather win a trophy, no matter what kind of, instead of a last-16-medal, argh there's not even one!

Why not get UCL experience instead of UC experience. I dont see it as a formality that we will win the UC if we happen to be in it. I think we would do better than most but winning is never guaranteed no matter how strong your squad or how well prepared you think you are.

Given that without winning the UC, we'd probably achieve alot more, gain 10x prizemoney and understand more of how to prepare for European matches and that goes for everyone at the club, not just the players.

We'd be playing European football but just against a better standard of football. You learn the most by playing the best in the competition that everyone wants to win the most. I see that as more beneficial to the players and the club as a whole on the world stage, than trying to get a "quick fix" in the UC.

I say "quick fix" because the UC has become a competition that only the clubs involved are interested in. Its the Intertoto Cup with alot more clubs Everyone else in Europe and the world watches the UCL alot more. Again I'm talking about the competition now, dont be comparing what I'm saying about it now to what it was 4 years ago, it has changed alot.

Now thats a strange post. Why ask that when nobody is talking about the management of the club.

AT the moment of time i would like us to win the UC mainly cause we have lost are sevilla coeeficient and if we win the UC we would be much better suited and probaly in seeds 2 for the CL the season after and give us a better chance and raise the profile and bit

OK I agree with this. But do you accept that winning it would stand us in good stead for future CL campaigns ?

Firstly my asking if FIESTA BHOY had found a post where I wanted Strachan sacked was posted because he said I would call for Strachan's head - which I have NEVER done.

Secondly, and perhaps you should read my posts properly, I make the point that actually winning the UEFA Cup, which I agree is no formality, would give us experience of what it takes to make sure that we get the result. We are never going to win the UCL so we will never get that wee bit extra that comes from learning to force the issue in crucial European ties and making sure that we get through. We would learn from winning and this would serve us well in future CL campaigns.

I suspect that winning ten times the prize money is a slight exaggeration Dempsey, but then you are the man in the know !

It was an exaggeration? Not that much of one

    http://sport.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=669&id=1033652007

    Last Season:
Celtic, last 16 of UCL: £10.6 million
Rangers, last 16 of UC: £300,000

Rangers did their TV deal with the BBC, that figure isnt included but it wouldnt have been a scratch on the 4.2M that Celtic got from UEFA. These figures dont include gate receipts either.

Financially, it isnt worth it. And to give our team the expierence wouldnt be worthwhile because we would probably have to sell our better players to balance the books because of the loss of income!

I would definately want Celtic to be in the CL...no questions...but if they are unable to get to last 16, then hopefully at least they can drop into UC and THEN would I want to win it. I would not want them to drop out of the CL just so they can win the UC. I would want them to win the UC becasue the were knocked out of the CL.

FFS I have said all along that if I had to choose between last 16 CL and WINNING the UEFA Cup (NOT REACHING LAST 16 UC:87:) I'd take WINNING the UEFA Cup (NOT LAST 16 UEFA Cup).

If we won the UEFA Cup we'd make a lot more than 300k.

BTW Is that all football is to you, stats ?

What about the sheer * joy we'd all experience if we WON the UEFA Cup ?

Does that not do it for you ?

The journey and emotion of winning the UEFA Cup, for me, would far outweigh having cash to buy a £5m player.

Yeah, it's a tough choice... I agree with what ede said at the top of the page... I would want to be in the CL but if we don't make it through the group stages then I'd be happy anyway as we'd be in the UEFA Cup.

we will make it to the champs league...the bhoys know the score this time...an if we get through the group then there is no reason why we won`t get past the last 16...thats when we are at our best + the fans as the 12th man....WE ARE TRULLY THE BEST IN THE GAME!
