beggers belief ,, we cant string 2 performances together,,and the uffa cup is an ugly sister,

well , what can i say,,,except if u close your
eyes and hold a ugly sister,,some times it feels great, but if i coulent get the big beautiful sister, the ugly one would suit me nicely,,the ugly ones need a cuddle too,,

Although the CL is the top competition, winning the UEFA Cup would be a dream. Just imagine the bragging rights saying you have won both. The thrill of it all again would be magical (after Seville).

no but we were close to the last 8. very close
plus theres the fact you get double the money from the last 16 than you do in a ufea cup final . which gives your team more money to get a better squad and try and get further each year.
hoping to get into the uefa cup final rather than the last 16 is stupid.

I think the CL would give us more respect and proably money, however sevile was amazing so i would say if we got knocked out of CL nothing short of winning the ufea cup would be required

I'd love for us to win any of the two competitions but ultimately the Champions League is far more lucrative and so doing well in that is the ultimate goal for the future of the club. Seville must have been amazing (I was stuck in my Higher Maths Exam taht day:54:)

    That's your opinion.

Here's another way of looking at it. When we get put out in extra time against the likes of Milan, or we get cheated away to Juventus a pal of mine always makes a good point about the successful European teams "these teams know what it takes to get through these ties"

    We don't.

But if we were to win the UEFA Cup, rather than having our usual 'glorious failure', then we would have displayed a bit of the "knowing what it takes". This would serve us well long term for other assaults on the CL.

But what I can't get my head round is how any sane person would swap Seville + actually winning the final for last season's European experience.

For me they just don't even compare.

its not opinion that the cl gives you double the money of winning the uefa cup. thats fact.
Money is what you need. and the last 16 is were the money is.
yes it would be amazing to win the uefa cup but ONLY if we slip up on the way to the last 16
suggesting that we aim for the uefa cup final rather than the last 16 is suggesting taking a dive, not playing well enough to play with the big boys so we can look big in a small tank.

INFACT! Martin, if we were to lose the qualifier and get put in the eufa cup you'd have the manager sacked! you personally would be screaming for his head to be on a plate.

Please show me where I say we should take a dive, or where I say I want us to get put out of the CL. FACT is I haven't in any of my posts. Quote me.

You don't know what I would think should some hypothetical situation arise (i.e. losing CL qualifier) - unless you can read minds and see in to the future.

I am asking you a question here. Given that we have experienced both in recent years, what did you enjoy the most, Seville or last 16 CL ?

Which was most exciting and gave you memories you will cherish for longest ?

    EDIT

IN FACT show me any post in any thread I have ever made calling for his head on a plate. Please.

    No

It became pointless when they made it group stages
The year after we lost the final is when it really went downhill :50:

I would agree that bringing in the groups of 5 (* ?) was a bad move. I'd still be dancing for joy if we won it though, as I think most of us would.

I'd love these same people to comment if Celtic actually reached a final of UEFA Cup to see if it was embarrasing then. It would be a brilliant achievement to win that trophy, and a very enjoyable one.

Exactly. Well said. These same people would be jumping for joy if we won it. I didn't see many folk jumping for joy when we were put out of the last 16 CL.

Obviously the UEFA Cup is the secondary tournament but what is we want out of football if not wonderful experiences like Seville ?
