UEFA Champions League 2018-2019 qualifiers

8 qualifying matches for a team winning their league is a farce.

and they have the cheek to call it the Champions League! Hope somebody takes them to court under the trade description act. The sooner there is an alternative league for teams to play each other the better. Just want us through this qualifying and into the groups.

we must be due a break with the draw if we get that far.

 

What's the script with these amount of qualifying rounds in the next year or two? Is this a one off due to bad performances a few years back, does it revert back to 3 rounds next season or the one after?
Or what do we need to do/who's above us in co-ef to out best to change this in the future?

 

We now dont need to worry about the other Scottish teams in Europe as their coefficient doesnt affect ours as of the start of 2018-19 season

 

It will be like this for years to come and do better for the co-efficient. Scotland's ranking has gone down to 26th and so it will be the same in 2019-20. The co-efficient is spanned over 5 years.

So basically we need to do better next season also. Celtic got 12.5 points this season, divide that by 4 and we got 3.125 of Scotland's 4. St Johnstone got * all, Rangers 1 (0.25) and Aberdeen 2.5 (0.625).
The previous season Celtic 10.5, Hibs .5,Hears 2.5 and Aberdeen 3.5.

We need all the teams to improve. If Celtic got to the group stage of CL, and 2 other teams got to the group stage of EL then we would fly up it.

edit: Denmark 18th, Belarus 19th, Croatia 16th and Romania 17th all enter a round later than us. This means the following season Cyprus, Denmark, Israel and Croatia will enter a round before. Yep Israel and Cyprus. We need to gain roughly 3-4 points increase (12 between the clubs to get there). Could be done in a couple of seasons.
Austria 15th and Greece 14th enter the following round. Following season Holland and Greece. Need a 10 point increase would need at least 4 seasons to do that.
Holland 13th and Switzerland 12th go into the play off round. The following season Switzerland and Czech Republic.
Teams 11th and above automatic qualification.

 

It’s grim looking at some of the nations who are ahead of us. Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Israel and possibly Belarus and Kazakhstan if we perform badly as a nation in Europe again this season.

The likes of Aberdeen and Hibernian need to get the finger out, they have the players to reach the group stages of the Europa league, but for whatever reason it just hasn’t quite happened over the last 8-10 years.

 

They at the very least have the players to get further than they have done, and so do Rangers if they have all this new money for Gerrard. Whether it is the group stages I'm not sure, there are some tough teams in there. Each season Celtic get more in 1 season than the other 3 combined over 2, which is quite poor. I would expect the other teams to pick up at least 3 points each. If they totalled 10 a season over the next 3 years and Celtic got the same we would start later in the competition.

 

It is unfair to us and clubs like us , if you win your championship you should be into the group stages before clubs that are runners up ( or worse ) . But to hold off a possible breakaway super European league , the top performing leagues get to enter a multiple of clubs . Imagine a club with our heritage having to play CL qualifiers during the world cup . A few years ago Celtic had players in a good number of national teams involved in the world cup finals . What a logistical nightmare that throws up . Last year Sevco were in European action before the school holidays had started , I mention that as an example of how crazy things have become .

 

Corks ground only holds 6000. They are starting to sell tickets for the qualifer this Monday on pre sale. Away section in Turners Cross only holds 300.

 

is that right? I thought the tie was given a co-efficient - both clubs coefficient added together - which carries through to the next round. regardless of the winner

Well Sevco 2012 FC have never qualified for the group stage of any European competition so I don't see why this is crazy. Hehe

But you're completely right. IMO UEFA should just let the elite clubs make their own format, and then they can amalgamate the CL and EL into a new competition, one that could be just as accessible as the EL but with more glamour.
