Celtic linked with midfielder Morton
Celtic have taken an interest in Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Tyler Morton, according to SportsBoom.
Morton, 22, came through the youth ranks at Anfield while current Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was in charge of the Reds. He spent last season on loan at Hull City and is understood not to have a long-term future under Arne Slot at Liverpool.

Would be good back-up but i find it quite worrying how little we have spent. Sure you could debate that spending does not always mean a higher quality player, but this window so far have been pretty remarkable has it not? We have barely spent a couple of million. Very weird window but i am happy with what we have brought in so far at the same time.

Good player, and an actual CDM too.

I’ve just posted about him in the non media rumours bit.
Not sure how much of this is true to be fair, but he would be a great signing.
Holding midfielder, brilliant with his feet and would make us better. Can’t see this being more than a loan as Liverpool would want £15-£20 million for him.
Been linked with a few premiership sides as well, if it was a loan to buy for like 12 million with a sell on fee I would be all for it.
He has the potential to get us Matt O’Reilly money if we did get him in.martin_d likes this. -

Would need to break the bank to get this guy. Seems very highly rated, he's English & playing for Liverpool would indicate his price will be inflated so a loan is more likely.

https://www.sportsboom.com/football...ing-bid-for-liverpool-wonderkid-tyler-morton/Exclusive: Celtic Join £15m Race for Liverpool Starlet Tyler Morton
Celtic are preparing a bid for Liverpool wonderkid Tyler Morton, valued at £15 million. The 22-year-old midfielder is seeking regular game time after limited opportunities at Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers hopes to secure the talented player amid competition from other clubs.
Celtic have joined the race to sign Liverpool wonderkid Tyler Morton for £15million, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 22-year-old midfielder starred for England as they made a successful defence of their under-21 European Championship crown last weekend.
And with first-team opportunities limited at Liverpool, especially following the arrival of big-money summer signing Florian Wirtz, Morton knows he will have to leave to get regular football.
The defensive-minded midfielder signed a long-term deal with the club in January 2021 but has played just twice for in the Premier League since then.
Last season he played three EFL Cup games against West Ham, Brighton and Southampton respectively – all victories – as well as being handed the chance to start in a 4-0 home win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.
He was also used as a second half substitute when the Reds lost 3-2 away to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers knew of Morton from when he was Liverpool manager and is well aware of the youngster’s exciting talents.
But the Northern Irishman knows he faces tough competition for his signature, with Premier League West Ham having already expressed their interest in the players.
Dutch side Ajax, Braga and Club Brugge are reported as being keen to sign the player as well.
Rodgers hopes he holds the key to sign the former Academy graduate, who is now facing a crossroads in his burgeoning career after 16 years at Anfield.
Morton spent 11 years developing in the club’s successful academy system before making his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Arsenal in November 2021.
Only four days later he made his Champions League debut, playing the whole game in a 2-0 win over Porto.
And the player’s maturity for such a young age, added to his growing qualities, are two of the main reasons why Rodgers would love to tempt Morton to Celtic Park this summer as the Hoops look to win an impressive fifth league title in a row.
Morton has previously had loan spells with Hull City and Blackburn Rovers to get games, but has really shot to prominence this month after starring for his country.
England bravely fought back from 2-0 down to beat Germany 3-2 in the Under-21 Euros’ final, with Morton playing a starring second half role. -
If we can get him for under 15 it's doable. Cba with a loan.

Be very surprised if we signed a player being touted at £15m from Liverpool, if he's good enough that we'd pay that kind of money you'd think he'd have bigger league offers on the table.
-
He’s very good and I’m sure he’d do well here, but at that kind of money, I’m also sure we could get someone equally well suited to us for less.
-
If its 15mil we ain't spending that. That's not to say we shouldn't or even couldn't as we have the cash.
I just can't see us spending it while we have McGregor.
We do really need a strong aggressive type in midfield tho it's clear as day. -
I will start believing there is something in this, if @The Thumb confirms it.
By all accounts he is an extremely good player, could maybe do with bulking up a bit, but if we could secure a loan with an option to buy, it could be a doer. A proper CDM with a very high ceiling, to eventually take that No.6 slot, is what we really need. -
