I mind when O'Neil first came here, all the signings he made. Later on he opened up about his idea behind it all and how he got some of the players to come up from england, paraphrasing but something like "you've had a steady career, come to celtic and you will win medals, play in Europe and 60k fans will love you". Mon came as a well respected man, as has Rodgers.
So far Rodgers has brought toure and sinclair up here, could easily see him convince a few others who have skipped around mid-high table epl but never quite made the step up to be talked about with the arsenals etc. Or like sinclair who didn't quite cut it at city. Come here and you will get paid a decent wage and get a chance to actually get some medals to show to your kids.

Yaya is on a lot less than that. But we still can't afford him.

If it were to happen, it would only be a loan move I would imagine. His wages would be a stumbling block perhaps. I don't see it happening to be honest.

I was just suggesting Steven Gerrard because his name popped into my head a few times this week when I was thinking about the DM position.

I know Gerrard's Galaxy contract is up in December and he is 35, the same age as Kolo.

And there does seem to be a trend going on everywhere in signing or loaning older more experienced players.

MON also had the fifth biggest wage bill in Britain at the time to entice the players

Aye, I wouldn't say it was that difficult for O'Neill, compared to what Rodgers is up against now.

I mean, when Larsson was on £48k a week, the highest paid player was Sol Campbell at £100k a week but before that it was at the £50k mark and I'm sure it was Roy Keane (for many years). The equivalent today would be us paying £150k per week to a top players.

So when guys like Sutton (who's career had stalled a wee bit), Thompson (who was a mid-table player at the time) and Lennon (playing for Leicester, not United or Arsenal or Liverpool) were paid £30k a week to play for Celtic, with everything mentioned above, its hardly a difficult sell, is it? The EPL wasn't that big a deal back then either.

Heard a Schweinsteiger rumour for the first today, don't believe it though.
