    Probably, mate. If we beat Malmo, it'll be the Virgil money that pays for it; if we don't, the money will cover running cost plus the usual "project" is my bet.

    Still, I (edit: we) can dream: keep Virgil one more year, get Denayer on loan for one more year and sign a marquee striker and we'd have a team capable of challenging for second in the groups IMHO. Apart from the absolute elite like Barça, Real, Bayern, etc, you'd feel pretty confident against most teams at CP with this, wouldn't you?

    If I had to choose then I would rather replace Izzy than bring in another centre back if Van Dijk stays.

    Izzy is a dam good left back, he'd be the weakest member of that back 4, right enough, but currently he's a better left back than Boyata is a centre back. And with that back 4 in my dream team all so comfortable on the ball, we might (Good forbid!) actually have decent possession stats in the CL. Boyata is no Denayer or Virgil in that respect.

    I say currently because, of course, we all hope that Boyata goes on to fill his potential.

    For a moment entertain the pato rumour. He has played against us, hasn't played in the UK.
    He's 25-26. A quick Google at his wages work out at 35k a week. He would be in the mould where Delia can get his career back on track and he wants a crack at champions league football again. We can offer him that (hopefully). He would cost roughly 4.5 million.
    His chairman quoted "they dream and pray the day they can sell him"
    We have surely and will likely cut another 10-20k off the wage bill meaning in theory he wouldn't break the wage structure cause we could use the extra wages from what we save in stokes ext (if he goes).
    4-5 million would be a solid investment if he bangs goals in for 2 or 3 seasons.
