Other "people" exaggerating as per usual...

I didn't want him to go there full stop!

Seems people are happy with "projects" than having a young lad who would probably have 10 plus goals right now IMO

Hopefully realises he wants to be here seems like he is enjoying his time away and hopefully wants to be at us earning the top striker roll

    Just what we need.

Sadly a lack of commitment will see all that talent go to waste.

Watt not the answer to Celtic's striker problem, insists Lennon as Bhoys boss targets forward in January window

Neil Lennon on Friday night insisted he has no plans to cut short Tony Watt’s loan spell in Belgium.
The striker came off the bench to score twice in Lierse’s 3-0 derby triumph over Mechelen on Boxing Day.
Ironically, Watt’s brace saved the job of coach Stanley Menzo, a public and vocal critic of the Scot’s attitude, fitness and training.

With Teemu Pukki, Anthony Stokes and Amido Balde failing to convince, Lennon is looking to spend on a new striker in the January window.
Responding to suggestions Watt could save the Hoops’ boss cash by returning to Glasgow early, however, Lennon warned that’s not an option.
He said: ‘I’ll speak to Tony over the next week or so, see how he is feeling and what the situation is but I’m not of a mind to bring him back just yet. We’ve loaned him for the year and I’d like him to see that one out. We couldn’t put him out on loan anywhere else if he does come back, so that’s not crossed my mind.’

With the Belgian league entering a three-week winter break, Watt returned to Scotland yesterday and won’t rejoin Lierse until January 18.
Sent out on loan after a famous goal against Barcelona failed to see him kick on at Celtic Park, the striker has been told to go out and grow up before thinking of resuming his career in Glasgow.

‘There’s an immaturity about Tony and the reason for putting him on loan was to see life at a different place,’ added Lennon.

‘We wanted him to sample a different culture and a different type of football. If it’s not going well, then he needs to knuckle down and make it work. The onus is on him.
‘I wasn’t aware of these problems [with Menzo] and I’ll need to speak to his agent over the next few days. He can be a difficult boy at times but there’s no malice in him or anything like that. He just needs to knuckle down and make the most of the opportunity he has. When he’s finished, he will still be part of our plans for the future.’

‘There’s no question that Tony has ability. He’s raw and just needs to polish it off a bit — and polish himself off as a fully-rounded figure. He definitely has ability. He’s not a man yet. Some players take a bit longer to mature than others. Not physically, that’s in a mental aspect as well. But Tony is a good kid.’

Lennon is weighing up moves for Huddersfield striker James Vaughan and watched AZ’s American international Aron Johannsson and former target Alfred Finbogasson face off in the Dutch league last week.
Watt plans talks with the Celtic boss, however, after coming off the bench at 0-0 to score a memorable derby double.

He'll be back next year or perhaps in january and will become our first choice striker. Play him as a centre forward and he will score goals. He has already shown it in the league and in europe. Never should have been loaned out imo but if he gets his head together he will be a star.

he definitely has the ability, but obviously applying himself and attitude fall short, a full season away will show him what its like to fall from grace and having to muck about in near obscurity, he should come back in the summer and FULLY appreciate what it means to be here. Coming back now wouldnt be beneficial to his development

Lennon's a bit out of order regarding Tony Watt there, if he said that about Pukki the * would jump into the Clyde...... if he could find it that is.

Aye, exactly. He's had my backing the whole time. There was a thread on here the other day about the team for next season, and I said I wanted him in it. He has a big future with this club and is a future Hunskelper. :shamrock:

Hopefully he's screwed the head and we'll see him back in the green and white sooner rather than later.

Not sure why Lennon would sign another striker in the window, to be honest, unless we offload the * lot of 'em.

How many * pish strikers are we going to sign honestly. It is getting ridiculous. Spunking money up the wall on James Vaughan isn't the answer either.

Bring Watt back and start selling Bangura, and the pish we don't need.

Watching that finbogasson on youtube the other day. Honestly what a striker. He woukd be worth 6 million and his wages wouldn't have to be that high.. looks like ledley is off so that's another 35 grand a week we can offer and it wouldn't cost us anything more than were spending in wages right now paying ledley. I have a feeling sammy will stay but he gets less than ledley I'm sure.

We have our CL money from this season so we will be able to spend the amount of 5-6 million if the board are ambitious enough. The moneys there and he clearly has talent. Some of the goals he scored were world class. Really hope we get finbo! I think if the board think they won't be able to make money off of him because clubs aren't willing to pay that much for players from the SPFL ... but big Vic is a perfect example. If you preform in the CL your price goes up big time! And I think finbo has that ability!

:smiley-laughing002: It is a lovely sentiment. But it isn't going to happen in January if it never happened this summer.

Hopefully them 2 well taken goals will be a good springboard for Tony for the 2nd half of his season with Lierse :shamrock:
