CELTIC are set to move for £5million Belgian international defender Timothy Castagne.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has made the 23-year-old Atalanta right-back a target for next month’s transfer window.
Castagne who made his debut for the Red Devils against Scotland in September, is under contract until 2020.
Serie A club Atalanta are keen to keep him, but could be persuaded to cash in if the Premiership leaders cough up big money.
Rodgers wants a new right-back and tried to sign Cristiano Piccini from Sporting Lisbon in the summer before his £7m move to Valencia.
Now he has targeted Castagne and will hope chief executive Peter Lawwell gets the deal over the line.

Couple of other papers have picked up on it as well.

Can't see us paying 6 upfront for a right back who supposedly doesn't really get a game for Atalanta..
No really seen this guy but if he's just behind Meunier and making his debut for Belgium this year then maybe a goodun.. -

It was doing the rounds it was done. Price quoted the lot this morning before it was in the rags. Never heard of the guy but we certainly need a right back.

Started off this morning with a guy saying we have signed a right back for 6 million. Would not say who it was. After a couple of beers he said he was from Belgium but wouldnt say anything else. Heard a few folk speaking about a right back signing afterwards. The link popped up a few hours ago online. * knows but if it's a coincidence it's a strange one.

Yes its a bit of a gamble but theres a few good reason its worth it;
1. We need a right back. Thats a given.
2. He is capable of playing both right back and left back, which offers some cover for Tierney.
3. He is also capable of playing as a wing back which Rodgers has tried a few times.
4. Hes only just turned 23 which means his best years should be ahead of him.
5. He has international experience for one of the top countries.
6. He has alot of European experience or at least equivalent to that of most of the Celtic boys with boy Atalanta and Genk.
7. Hes not Lustig :fear:MartinoBianco likes this. -
