Whats everyones opinion on here (who go to the gym regularly) about starting out with full body workouts?

I used to do weights before to supplement my Karate/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, so was lifting weights maybe 2/3 times a week and was doing a split and was getting really nice results.

I fell off the wagon a while ago and started back last week, originally doing the splits I was doing previously, just a push day, pull day, leg day.

I used to read bodybuilding.com forums quite a bit and jumped on that, and it seems everyone is harping on about full body workouts being the best for beginners for the first 6 months or so.

I tried IceCreamFitness 5x5 yesterday for the first time. Usually, with the way I was working out before, I'd come out the gym soaked in sweat feeling like I had just done a workout, but last night I came out feeling kind of indifferent. Didn't feel like any muscle groups were particularly hard worked (which I like the feeling of, love lying on the couch after getting home and feeling like you cant lift your arms) so I felt like it was a bit wasted. I woke up this morning though and my muscles are hurting, mainly my legs, bis/tris and shoulders, so Im guessing it must have done something.

I made the mistake of doing too much cardio thinking that if I dont leave the gym with a proper sweat it was a pointless work out. I now play 5 aside a couple of times a week, goto the gym 4 times a week to tone up ( not the free weights ) and im getting good results.

The cardio was making me lose weigjt and muscle quickly, dropped two stone in a 2 months lol

If you're looking to build up cardios still fine as long as you're taking in more calories then you're expending.

Eating way less calories but thats because I ate nothing bit * before I started the gym. I tend to do about 15-20 mins on the cross trainer maybe 2 out of 4 and then add 5 aside on top of that.

Probably taking in just a tad less than 2000 calories, not intentional tho purely just done to eating cleaner.

I know to build up a bit I need to be taking in more but * me between going to the gym, work and everything else its a challenege to find the time to eat more :smiley-laughing002:

Aye I think it would be a challenge, guy in my work is a bodybuilder, he's eating about 6000 calories / day just now. Every time you go into his office he's got a tub full of rice/pasta/chicken or whatever lol. Nuts.

If you give it everything you've got and eat good you'll get great results.

Any views on reducing the body fat percentage? I do what I think is alot of cardio ( 30 mins per day - endurance and HIIT ) but really struggling to get the percentage to below 17-18.

I found that while using cardio machines the muscle im gaining im slowly using. I work as hard as I can, 2 hour sessions at the gym 4-5 days a week....and my diet is pretty good considering what it used to be.

I know I could probably up my cardio a wee bit longer but its definitely eating away at the muscles.

    It's your diet.

If it's pretty good then it has to be really good.

Edit: 2 hours sessions?? There is no reason why you should be in the gym for more than an hour :smiley-laughing002:

    You're more likely overtraining.

The diet definitely has a few loose ends lol no denying it!

Been feeling the burn from 2 hours more or less everyday. I know you need to be patient and * but its really starting to * me off :smiley-laughing002:

You think spending too much time in the gym could be causing it then? I guess if the bodies running on empty it starts storing alsorts as fat? Plus as ive said before im really strugglingnto eat more which is kind of annoying :54:
